Salma Hayek recently posted photos to Instagram of herself and Pirates of the Caribbean star Penelope Cruz getting ready together on the morning of the Met Gala. The gala itself, of course, is one of the highest-fashion events in the world, with guests often arriving in extreme and over-the-top looks. So it was lovely to see these two close friends hanging out together in jeans and pajamas, enjoying a spa day in preparation for the event.

They can also be seen lying together on a long chaise lounge, laughing and smiling. Of course, both Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz are inspirations to many Latinx actors who have followed the trails they blazed. Ortega’s star continues to rise, not only making waves as Wednesday Addams but also starring in and producing a new Netflix heist series.
Of course, Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz were also a stunning part of the Met Gala’s fashion explosion. Though they did some preparation for the evening in tandem, they attended separately, each making her own outstanding mark. Hayek appeared in a form-fitting red dress with a dramatic skirt and shiny, pearl-adorned bodice that reminded us a bit of the black corset look Cruz rocked recently in Madrid.
Penelope Cruz went in the other direction from the poured-on look Salma Hayek wore with a vintage, jewel-studded gown from Chanel. The dress looked ready for a wedding with a gossamer veil and fluffy, floor-length skirt. Whether they worked at it or woke up like that, the friends both looked amazing, before and during the glitzy event.
While Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz are both huge stars who know how to wow in high fashion and look incredible on a red carpet, it was refreshing to see the two of them as friends hanging out together. Sure, they were hanging out in preparation for an exclusive, world-famous celebrity event, but their affection and joy in these photos make them both feel accessible and human.
