Lisa Marie Presley’s cause of death has been revealed. According to the L.A. County Coroner report obtained by TMZ, the only child of rock legend Elvis Presley died from a small bowel obstruction. The strangulated small bowel resulted from an adhesion that formed after bariatric surgery (gastric bypass), which the singer-songwriter had years ago.

Multiple opioids found in Lisa Marie Presley’s system led to a bowel obstruction, which coroners report is the cause of Lisa Marie Presley’s death.

The toxicology report found therapeutic levels of Oxycodone in Lisa Marie Presley’s blood. A second opioid called Buprenorphine, which is used to treat opioid overuse, was also found along with traces of the antipsychotic drug Quetiapine. One of the side effects of opioids is constipation, which can lead to bowel obstructions, which was ultimately the cause of her death.

The coroner found no drug paraphernalia or narcotics at Lisa Marie Presley’s home, and her urine toxicology screen showed no signs of illicit drug use. Additionally, the report confirmed that Presley underwent cosmetic surgery a few months before her death and was prescribed opioids. Presley tended to forget whether she had taken her prescribed medication and would often overmedicate.

Lisa Marie Presley’s History of Alcohol and Drug Abuse

The report also mentions that Lisa Marie Presley had a past characterized by alcohol and drug misuse. Following the birth of her twin daughters, Harper and Finley, in 2008, Presley faced a challenging battle with opioid addiction, stemming from a short-term prescription she received during her postpartum recovery.

As time went on, Lisa Marie Presley’s struggles escalated, and by 2013, she found herself deeply entrenched in cocaine abuse. In an attempt to address her addiction, Presley sought treatment and made multiple self-admissions to rehab facilities, undergoing the process at least five times.

Lisa Marie Presley died on January 12, 2023, at age 54, after being rushed to the hospital under cardiac arrest. She was initially found unresponsive in her bedroom by her housekeeper. Presley’s ex-husband, Danny Keough, performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

Lisa Marie Presley attended the 2023 Golden Globe Awards two days before her death to celebrate the Elvis biopic starring Austin Butler. The actor won the Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama award for his portrayal of the King of Rock n’’ Roll. During his acceptance speech, he thanked Presley and her mother, Priscilla, who was also in attendance.

Lisa Marie Presley underwent cosmetic surgery a few months before her death and was prescribed opioids.

Lisa Marie Presley is survived by her children Riley Keough, aged 34, from her previous marriage to Danny Keough, and her 14-year-old twin daughters Harper and Finley, whom she shares with ex-husband Michael Lockwood. It is worth noting that Presley’s son, Benjamin Keough, tragically passed away by suicide in 2020 at the age of 27.

Following Lisa Marie Presley’s passing, Riley and Priscilla became embroiled in a complex legal dispute concerning the late musician’s trust, which designated the actress from the Amazon Prime series Daisy Jones and the Six as the sole trustee. However, in May 2023, they reached a mutually satisfactory settlement, with Riley ultimately becoming the sole trustee.

As part of the settlement, Riley will make a one-time payment of $1 million to her grandmother and cover $400,000 in legal fees, as stated in documents obtained by the New York Times in June 2023. The actress reportedly chose to settle to avoid further drama with her grandmother.
