Rian Johnson’s time-travel actioner Looper feels like its right on top of us, even though we have well over a month before it opens on September 28th. A new international trailer has popped up online, and it isn’t going to help ease anyone’s impatience.

This go-round the action takes center stage, and that is definitely a good thing. There are shootings, chases, a cool hover-cycle thing, and Bruce Willis drenched in blood. Yeah, Looper looks like a kickass science-fiction story.

Through a steady voiceover, Joseph Gordon-Levitt gives you the basic rundown of the plot. He breaks down how time travel exists, but is illegal, thus only used by big-time criminal organizations. When they need someone disappeared, then send him back in time where a specialized hitman, a looper, disappears the target. Back in the future the mob can go on about their business without having to worry about the cops stumbling across any pesky cadavers.

Joe (Gordon-Levitt) is one of these loopers. He makes a lot of money and has a good life, until his bosses decide to get rid of him, sending his future self (Willis) back for execution. Not only does Joe have to cope with the existential crisis of killing himself, but when he botches the job, his bosses are plenty pissed off.

While a great deal is explained here, there is also a bunch that isn’t. Like the random moments where everything does a weird float, pause, shift thing. Initially I thought maybe it had something to do with the timeline changing, with causal events altering the fabric of time and space. However, according to the official website, up to 15% of the population has developed telekinesis. So much for my theory.
