Check Out This Insane Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Concept Art

teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-new-images-02Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a movie that has a lot of problems. One of the big ones, perhaps the one that fans of the franchise were the most vocal in expressing their displeasure about, is the look of the title characters. Since the release of the film, which became such a hit that Paramount Pictures almost immediately gave the green light to a sequel, various pieces of concept art have hit the wire, showing what they could have looked like. And now there’s more. We even came across some renderings of what fan favorite villains Rocksteady, Bebop, and Krang might have looked like, were they included in the film.

What you see here in these pieces by artist Jerad S. Marantz is more in line with the traditional rounded faces that the Turtles have always had in their previous incarnations. Though there are some interesting textures in play in these images, gone are the more humanoid features of the Heroes in a Half Shell that pissed off so many people

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Gets An Honest Trailer Thrashing

You knew that this was coming, and that it was going to be all kinds of mean, but now that the movie is out on Blu-ray and DVD, here is the Screen Junkies’ “Honest Trailer” for the Jonathan Liebesman’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

To be honest, this isn’t actually quite a brutal as I expected. Sure, they do their shtick of pointing out all of the obvious flaws and problems, but the issues all so apparent that you’re already well aware of them, and they either bother you or they don’t. There are some funny moments, however, like referring to the newly designed Turtles as “roided-out nightmare versions of Shrek,” or talking about how the “nerd rage of 1000 fanboys” led to changes in the story and obvious reshoots.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 Will Feature These Three Fan Favorite Characters

Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesWhether you’re a fan of last summer’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or not, it doesn’t matter, because there’s already a sequel on the way. Hell, it got the green light from Paramount and Nickelodeon before the film had even been out a week. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 recently got a new director thrown into the mix, and we’re hearing reports that we can expect to see three fan favorite characters from the franchise appear in the next film.

Building up to the first movie, there was a lot of hope that fans might see characters like Rocksteady, Bebop, and Casey Jones make and appearance, but that never panned out. There was concept art for the first two actually commissioned, but they didn’t show up in the finished product, unless you count that Easter Egg hidden in the background. But, it does sound like all three of these familiar faces will be in TMNT 2, at least at this stage of the game.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 Just Hired This Unexpected Director

Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesI didn’t hate Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles nearly as much as a lot of people did. I won’t go so far as to call it a good movie, there is far too much Megan Fox as April O’Neil for that to happen, but even though they’re weird looking, the actual Turtles captured the feel and spirit of the original characters. Out of many complaints, the lack of screen time for the titular heroes is by far the biggest, something that, hopefully, the upcoming sequel will address. And speaking of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, the film added a surprising piece, naming David Green as director.

Released back in August, TMNT had a massive opening weekend, actually unseating Marvel’s juggernaut Guardians of the Galaxy at the box office. The rousing success astonished some, and Paramount Pictures wasted no time in green lighting a sequel. In the wake of this announcement, there was a ton of talk about the future of the franchise, possible characters (Rocksteady and Bebop) and storylines (Dimension X), that sort of thing. Much of this came from, or at least involved, director Jonathan Liebesman, and even though it wasn’t official, it sounded like he was going to be back for the second go round, which is why the Green report from Variety is something of a surprise.

Power Rangers, Godzilla 2, And Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 Get Release Dates

power rangersThere are a lot of movies in development right now, especially when it comes to sequel, reboots, and adaptations. The likes of Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm, DC, and Warner Bros. even have their schedule set, or at least mostly set, all the way out to 2020. We’re not looking quite that far into the future, but a Power Rangers movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, and Godzilla 2 all recently set their release dates, if you’re looking forward to any of those movies.

I’m old enough to think that the Power Rangers are totally stupid, and their continuing popularity never ceases to amaze me. But I like a lot of totally stupid things myself, so I have no room to talk when it comes to other people’s taste. And there are far more offensive things in the world, like the Teletubbies, those things are horrifying. THR reports that Lionsgate has just set the release date for a big budget adaptation for July 22, 2016.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 Could Head To Dimension X

Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesReady or not, there’s a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 on the way. Having dominated the weekend, brining in more $65 million against stiff competition including Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Paramount Pictures wasted no time in green lighting a sequel. There have been all kinds of articles about what Turtles 2 should and shouldn’t do (including one from our very own distinguished Nick), but now we’ve heard from people actually involved with the films and have our first hint of what may be in store for us.

The folks over at JoBlo had the opportunity to sit down with TMNT producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, as well as director Jonathan Liebesman, and talk naturally turned to the future. They asked if the Heroes in a Half Shell might be on their way to Dimension X.
