In The Flesh Season 2 Trailer Tears Kieren Apart

When you think of zombies, what probably springs immediately to your mind is a swarm of rotting, undead corpses shuffling about, arms outstretched, trying their level best to take a bite out of your fleshy bits. That’s how it is in AMC’s The Walking Dead and George Romero’s genre-defining Dead trilogy, though the BBC’s take on the subject matter, In the Flesh, takes a different approach. Season two of the show is set to debut soon, and this new trailer illustrates just how the show stands apart from its contemporaries.
In the Flesh picks up after humanity has survived a zombie war. Though many were hunted down and killed by militias, they’ve found a way to rehabilitate the zombies and reintegrated them into society. That’s where the drama picks up, with the sufferers of Partially Deceased Syndrome (PDS), including Kieren Walker (Luke Newberry), attempting to reclaim their lives.
While some “rotters” as they’re called, wear make-up and contact lenses in order to pass, others wear their status as a badge of pride, as something that sets them apart and proves that they’re members of the chosen few. This presents a new, different dimension to your typical zombie situation, and provides a nice allegory for social issues. There’s definitely a conflict between the living and the dead, but not in your usual, “I’m gonna eat you” kind of drama. Kieren is caught in the middle of this, and, as this video says, “Choosing a side will tear him apart.”

In the cauldron of Roarton, where the living and the undead have reached a fragile peace, Kieren is desperately keeping his head down and squirreling money into his ‘escape fund’ for Paris. But in the wider world, fear is in the air. The radical Pro-Living Party, Victus, is gaining government seats with a resulting spate of PDS Terrorism linked to the Undead Liberation Army (ULA). With the arrival of new and explosive characters from both Victus and the ULA, Kieren’s plans are thrown into disarray as both set their sights on him. He’ll find himself caught in the emotional crossfire, making his desire for a quiet life an unrealistic option.
In addition to Newberry, the series stars Emily Bevan, Harriet Cains, Stephen Thompson, Kenneth Cranham, Kevin Sutton, Steve Cooper, Marie Critchley, Sandra Hugget, Gerrard Thompson, and Gillian Waugh. There are also some newcomers in the upcoming episodes, in the form of Wunmi Mosaku, playing Maxine Martin, and Emmett J. Scanlan. Season two of In the Flesh premieres on May 10,
