Transformers: Age of Extinction IMAX And New Character Poster

fb share tweet share

transformers-age-of-extinction-imax-movie-posterThe best way to watch Transformers: Age of Extinction is going to be in full, glorious IMAX. While I’m not a fan of 3D, the IMAX experience is unmatched and worth the extra surcharge, and it’s the only way to experience a movie as big and action-packed as Age of Extinction. To celebrate the IMAX release of the new Transformers sequel, Paramount Pictures has released the new IMAX poster up top, which features the film’s new villains.

Although the poster above is merely a still taken from the movie’s trailer, it still conveys the scale of Transformers: Age of Extinction. The poster features two of the film’s villains, who are believed to be Unicron and Galvatron. With Megatron out of the way, the likely explanation for Galvatron to show up is that Unicron created the new Decepticon leader. For the uninitiated, Unicron created Galvatron from the dead body of Megatron. I guess the Transformers are technically Creationists.

This summer, Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age of Extinction will kickstart a new chapter in the film franchise with an all-new cast and Autobots and Decepticons that have yet to be featured in the series. Transformers 4 is looking to have a bigger box office than its predecessor Dark of the Moon while also opening up the film series to a new audience. Now Paramount has released a set of character posters that give us a look at two of the human cast member, not to mention Optimus Prime himself.

The new-and-improved Optimus Prime is front and center in the first poster, not to mention wielding a giant sword. While the sword was featured in previous marketing materials, you didn’t really get a sense of how big the weapon actually is until you see it in this poster. Optimus has a majestic, noble-warrior look to him with the fighting stance and Asian backdrop. It’s going to be interesting to see if Prime will live on past Age of Extinction.

After an amazing TV spot during Super Bowl XLVIII a few weeks ago, the new trailer for Transformers: Age of Extinction reminds us why these movies make so much money. They’re full of unbelievable spectacle. The latest trailer offers up more of the film’s story and a clearer direction to where the series is heading.

The trailer opens with a shot of a typical American farm, with a truck passing by a billboard that reads, “Remember Chicago,” as a nod to the events of Transformers: Dark of the Moon. It also reminds people to “Report Alien Activity,” indicating how the country views the Autobots and the Decepticons as the film begins. We then meet Cade Yaeger (Mark Wahlberg) and his daughter Tessa, a single-parent family trying to survive during a shaky economy.

The fourth installment of Michael Bay’s Transformers hits this summer with the Mark Wahlberg-starring Age of Extinction. That, however, isn’t going be the only giant, shape-shifting robot offering you get in 2014. At the toy fair that’s going on in New York—you’ve probably seen tons and tons of photos of toys over the last couple of days—Activision and Hasbro announced the release of a new videogame, Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark. Hot on the heels of that reveal, we have some new details about the plot of the game, as well as this kickass new teaser trailer full of in game footage.

Rise of the Dark Spark will synthesize multiple Transformers universes. The action takes the world of Bay’s successful film franchise and brings it together with the “Cybertron Universe” that fans of the franchise will recognize from earlier video games. So this is a kind of best of both worlds scenario. Scheduled to launch this June, the game will have more than 40 playable characters to choose from and be available on most gaming consoles, including Playstations 3 and 4, Xbox One and 360, as well as PC and Wii. There is also a planned 3DS version in the works.

grimlockThe New York Toy Fair 2014 is the best way to preview new science fiction movies through their toy lines. We’ve already seen toys and images from Guardians of the Galaxy and Star Wars: Rebels. While these properties were a comic book adaptation and a TV spinoff, respectively, you’ve also got a huge movie franchise out there based on a toy line: the Transformers. Now the Toy Fair is giving us a good look at the new Autobots and Decepticons that will be featured in Transformers: Age of Extinction, namely the Dinobots and the film’s main villain, Galvatron.

The images below features the Dinobots in action. We see what Grimlock will look like as a T-Rex and as a robot. It seems like the Dinobots’ leader will have a bo staff for his weapon of choice, and we also get a first look at Slash, a Transformer velociraptor. Hopefully it won’t be long before we get a better look at the other Dinobots: Slag, Sludge, Snarl, Swoop, and Paddles, an Elasmosaurus.
