There are a number of stars from George Lucas’ original Star Wars trilogy returning for the J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, but for all the talk about Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford (especially after he broke his leg on set), one name we haven’t mentioned much is Anthony Daniels. His C-3PO is a vital component to the franchise, not to mention the character has appeared in more of the films that just about anyone else. There was a question of whether or not the actor would actually don the golden suit once again, and he did have a couple of demands before he would commit to reprising his most notable role one more time.
Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Daniels discussed how he came to be in Episode VII, and in the process, he also revealed the two things that he required to return to that far, far away galaxy. One of the qualifications was that he would, again, physically climb into his signature suit. Recounting a conversation he had with Abrams where the director brought up doing just voice work, Daniels said, “There’s no way I would do just the voice.” And there’s no way we want him to do just the voice.
