Roberto Orci Bails On Power Rangers, Find Out What That Means For Star Trek 3

Power RangersI’m not one of the people looking forward to Lionsgate’s big screen adaptation of Power Rangers. There must be folks out there who think a serious, big budget, tentpole style remake of a cheap, silly kids show from your youth is a good idea, but that doesn’t make it any less baffling. Production, however, just received a big blow as Roberto Orci has terminated his involvement in the project due to scheduling conflicts with directing Star Trek 3.

Deadline reports that Orci has vacated his executive producer slot in order to focus on making his directorial debut with Star Trek 3. We still haven’t heard official word that he has the job, which will be the first time he ever helms anything, but if he’s willing to bail on a hefty payday like Power Rangers, it seems like a good indication that he has the job. At some point Paramount will probably confirm this, and Trek fans officially begin hating on his involvement.

Star Trek 3 Could Reunite Two Legendary Original Series Characters

KirkSpockIf the amount of news that we’ve heard about Star Trek 3 in recent days days is any indication, movement on the third part in the rebooted franchise is beginning in earnest. Among other things, we’ve heard that the cameras could begin rolling within the next few months (one potential start date is February 15, 2015), that the script is finished, and that the action will pick up in the middle of the Enterprise’s five-year mission (finally). The latest bit we’ve heard is that Star Trek 3 could, if all parties are amicable to such an occurrence, reunite two characters from the original series.

Regardless of your feelings on the revamped >Star Trek (we know there are a great many of you who would like to travel back and reset the timeline so they never happened), you have to give J.J. Abrams and company at least a little bit of credit for bringing back Spock, and not just Spock, the character, but Leonard Nimoy himself. When he shows up in the first movie, that is, admittedly, a pretty fantastic reveal. And if this report is correct, the script for Star Trek 3 could see Nimoy’s Spock come together with William Shatner’s Captain Kirk. And wouldn’t that be something to see?

Star Trek 3 Moves Closer To Becoming A Reality With Plot And Production Details

StarfleetThe story of Star Trek 3 has been hurry up and wait. It seems like there’s a bunch of movement, followed by a period of inactivity. Surely that’s just what we in the public sector hear and there is a more continual progress behind the scenes, but it’s starting to look like the ball is really getting rolling. Just the other day, star Zachary Quinto said he expects production to begin within six months, and now we’ve found some additional details about what this film will actually look like, and when we might see it.

TrekMovie.com has a new report that updates the status of the film. There’s nothing super Earth shattering, as this article mostly confirms other news and rumors that have been floating about, but it’s nice to have a bit more of an idea of the direction this film is heading.

Star Trek 3 May Boldly Get Going Sooner Rather Than Later According To One Star

SpockIt looks like we’ll once again be boldly going where no one has gone before a little bit sooner that some of us previously thought. Star Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock in the revamped cinematic franchise, says that Star Trek 3 could start filming as early as the beginning of next year.

Quinto appeared on NBC’s Today Show and indicated that production is inching closer and closer to kicking off, and that he expects to step on the bride of the Enterprise again sooner rather than later. When the subject of Star Trek 3 came up, he said, “I think it’s on the horizon..things are rumbling, so I have a feeling that we will be in production sometime in the next six months.”

Zoe Saldana Confirms That Avatar 2, 3, And 4 Will Film Early Next Year

neytiriZoe Saldana is going to be very, very busy for the foreseeable future, and it’s almost all sci-fi. Guardians of the Galaxy hit big at the box office this weekend, and now that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 already has the green light from Marvel, this brings the running tally of big-time franchises she stars in up to three. There’s also Star Trek and a little thing called Avatar to contend with, and every last one of them has sequels on the docket. Avatar actually has three in the works, and Saldana recently indicated that those films could begin production soon.

Vulture caught up with the star, who plays the badass green assassin Gamora, at a recent Guardians showing, and asked about her schedule coming up. Though full, she seems excited about it, and it sounds like she’s just waiting for word and she’ll paint herself blue and return to the distant world of Pandora. She says:

Star Trek Fans Rejoice, Roberto Orci May Not Direct Star Trek 3

enterpriseAccording to recent reports when Star Trek 3 drops, supposedly in 2016, they could finally get around to the whole “boldly going where no man has gone before” portion of the story, which is something fans of the original franchise would really like to see from the rebooted series. That’s something to get excited about. One thing that hasn’t exactly ignited a wildfire of enthusiasm, however, is the idea of Robert Orci directing the film. We thought that was set in stone, but according to a recent interview, he has not been officially confirmed as the helmer by Paramount. Stick your head out the window and you can practically hear the collective sigh of relief from fans.
