Snowpiercer Delivers The Misplaced Optimism Of The Doomed In This Clip

Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age of Extinction will certainly rule over the box office this weekend as it storms theaters worldwide. But while that spectacle is going on, one of our most anticipated movies—not just of this year, but of the last few years—sneaks into a limited number of theaters across the country. South Korean director Bong Joon-ho’s English-language debut, the post-apocalyptic Snowpiercer, has been a long time coming—I originally put in on my most anticipated movies of 2013 list—but is totally worth the wait. To hype up the release, The Weinstein Company has released this new clip.

Snowpiercer put together an incredible cast of actors from around the globe, but the two main players are Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton. Both are fantastic, but Swinton is operating on an entirely different level here. Taking center stage in this clip, you get a taste of exactly how phenomenal she is in this movie.

Snowpiercer Arrives With A New Poster

SnowpiercerThe summer movie season is always full of sequels, big time adaptations, reboots, and rehashes of things that we’ve already seen many times before, and that’s especially true this year. We’ve already seen multiple superhero sequels with X-Men: Days of Future Past and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla reboot flattened the box office, and Michael Bay drops another Transformers movie later this year. And there are others. This weekend Tom Cruise brings a much needed breath of fresh air to the multiplex with Edge of Tomorrow, which you all need to run out and see right now, but this month also hosts the debut of another stand alone movie we’re super pumped about, Bong Joon-ho’s (The Host) post-apocalyptic Snowpiercer. To whet your appetite, The Weinstein Company has released a new poster.

Due to a lengthy battle between the director and TWC over cuts that would have crippled the film, Snowpiercer has already opened in many markets around the world. As a result, we’ve already seen tons of trailers, TV spots, and posters, and this one for the American release isn’t one of the best offerings to come out. In reality, it looks like just about every one sheet for every generic Hollywood movie. The main character Curtis (Chris Evans) is front and center, while the disembodied heads of the rest of the international ensemble cast appear behind him, floating in space.

Snowpiercer Pulls Into The Station With A New US Trailer

Believe it or not, American audiences are less than a month away from finally seeing director Bong Joon-ho’s (The Host, Mother) English-language debut, the post-apocalyptic Snowpiercer. After a protracted battle between the filmmaker and The Weinstein Company, which owns the distribution rights and demanded extensive cuts to story and character development, the film will finally arrive in theaters on June 27. With the release imminent, we now have the first US trailer for your perusal.

Based on a French graphic novel, Snowpiercer is set in a future where attempts to reverse global warming have kicked off a new ice age. The only survivors live crammed inside of a train that, powered by a perpetual motion engine, endlessly circles the frozen wastes. Within these confines, a rigid caste system has developed, where the rich near the front of the train live in luxury, and the poor at the back wallow in squalor.

Korean director Bong Joon-ho’s English-language debut, the post-apocalyptic Snowpiercer, has been through a long, arduous journey. Fortunately all of that is behind us now, and we’ll finally get to see the director’s cut in theaters soon. To mark the occasion, we now have an awesome new red band trailer and a collection of stills from the film.

Snowpiercer has already opened in numerous markets around the world—it set box office records in Bong’s native Korea when it debuted last August—and one of the hardest things has been seeing fantastic trailers drop one after another for releases that most of us in the English-speaking territories couldn’t see. But now we have one of our own, and it still looks every bit as incredible as we hoped.

Snowpiercer Will Storm The LA Film Festival

snowpiercerAfter months and months of bickering back and forth, North America recently got a concrete release date for director Bong Joon-ho’s English-language debut, the post-apocalyptic Snowpiercer. The film hits a limited number of theaters, and presumably the video on demand market, on June 27. A select few viewers will get to lay eyes on it a few weeks earlier, since the film has been selected to open the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 11.

Based on the French graphic novel La Transperceneige, Snowpiercer is set in a futuristic world where attempts to reverse global warming have kicked off a new ice age—in the comics a war causes this catastrophe. The only survivors live inside of a train powered by a perpetual motion engine that endlessly circles the frozen wastes. Inside, the remaining passengers are divided by a rigid caste system—the wealthy elite living a life of leisure up front while the poor starve at the back—and resentment and rebellion bubbles and festers until it erupts in violence.

Snowpiercer Finally Has An American Release Date

snowpiercerWell all I can say is it’s about goddamned time. For those of us who have been waiting since the end of 2012 for this announcement, Bong Joon-ho’s post-apocalyptic thriller Snowpiercer has a release date. After a protracted battle with the Weinstein Company over crippling edits, the movie—the director’s version of the movie—will be released on June 27.

You might notice that this date puts Snowpiercer in direct competition with Transformers: Age of Extinction. Sort of. Bong’s movie is getting a limited release, so only some cities are going to get it that day, and we all know that nothing is going to derail the latest installment of giant robots fighting giant robots. But I like to think of it as a head to head, winner take all, battle royale.
