A few years ago, a short film made by Neill Blompkamp took the Internet by storm. Alive In Joburg was an innovative small production that caught the eye of Peter Jackson, which led to Blompkamp eventually making District 9 for Sony. Today, director/producer McG has acquired the rights to produce a live-action film adaptation of Visual Effects Artist Wes Ball’s animated short film, Ruin for 20th Century Fox. Could Ruin be the next District 9?

McG will produce the upcoming project with Steve Tzirlin, an executive at Lucasfilms who was in charge of the story development for Star Wars: The Clone Wars. They will be bringing on Wes Ball to direct the film, making it his feature film directorial debut. Fox sees Ruin being a future franchise for the studio.
