Zombieland Director Rumored For Ghostbusters 3 (And Ant-Man)

ZombielandThe metaphorical shit hit the equally metaphorical fan earlier this week when it was announced that Ant-Man director/all-around comic genius Edgar Wright and Marvel had parted ways over “creative differences.” It was shocking given that Wright has been attached to Ant-Man for damn near a decade, beginning with his hire to direct and co-write (along with Attack the Block’s Joe Cornish) back in 2006. What happened? Who knows, but speculation about who might take over directing Ant-Man has revealed a possible new twist in the saga of the forever-in-development Ghostbusters 3, a movie that is so far into undeath at this point that I keep waiting for the ghost of Harold Ramis to toss down a trap and put it out of its misery.

So, who’s the latest contestant in the long-running reality series known as “Who’s Directing Ghostbusters 3 This Week?” None other than Zombieland helmer Ruben Fleischer. That according to The Wrap, which mentions he’s being considered for Ghosbusters 3 in a story about how he’s also being considered (but not the front-runner) to replace Wright on Ant-Man. They also add that, even if he gets the Ghostbusters 3 job, it “isn’t heading into production nearly as soon.” Quelle surprise!

The LEGO Movie Directors Rumored To Helm Ghostbusters 3

Ghostbusters LEGO“Everything Is Awesome!” With the news that director Ivan Reitman was dropping out as director of Ghostbusters 3, there are a number of really good up-and-coming directors who could take his place. While Reitman’s sensibility for the Ghostbusters films were perfect in the 1980s, today’s brand of comedy has shifted. Although Sony hasn’t officially announced anything yet, a pair of buzzworthy directors could make everything awesome if they were brought on to helm Ghostbusters 3.

According to Nikki Finke, directors Phil Lord & Chris Miller are in talks to direct the third film in the Ghostbusters film series. Lord & Miller have a knack for taking movie properties that sound like they might be a terrible idea — like Ghostbusters 3 — and making them into surprising box office hits.

Ghostbusters 3 Will Live On In 2015, But Without Ivan Reitman Directing

ghostbustersI ain’t afraid of no ghosts, that’s for sure. But what I’m hesitant/scared/terrified of is a third Ghostbusters movie, which refuses to give up and dive into the ghost trap. But it still exists, and it has lost its most encouraging tie to the original two films: director Ivan Reitman. The filmmaker has officially decided to step away from the project following the death of his friend and longtime collaborator Harold Ramis. Thankfully, he isn’t leaving the franchise completely. And by thankfully, I mean (yawn).

Reitman will be sticking around Sony Pictures and will join Amy Pascal as a producer on the film, assisting her in finding whatever director will take his place. He’s been attached to this project for as many years as it has existed, from the one that Bill Murray refused to do, to the next one that Bill Murray refused to do, and things were looking up in recent years, as Reitman and co-scripter Dan Aykroyd were working with screenwriter Etan Cohen on a semi-reboot with all-new heroes. But while he was hoping that Ramis would get better, that unfortunately didn’t happen and Reitman feels he can’t return to the Ghostbusters universe without him. Citing years of reading Internet rumors about this project, Reitman decided to set the record straight himself in an interview with Deadline.

Ghostbusters 3 Is Still In The Works Despite Harold Ramis’ Death

GhostbustersYesterday, the news broke about the unexpected and tragic death of Harold Ramis, far too young at the age of 69. While he was best known for starring in the Ghostbusters movies, Ramis was also a very accomplished director for some of the most iconic comedies of the last 30 years, including Caddyshack, National Lampoon’s Vacation, and Groundhog Day. He hadn’t worked in Hollywood since 2009 because of his illness, but Ramis was expected to appear in the on-again-off-again project Ghostbusters 3, and in spite of his death, it sounds like that project is still continuing.

Cinema Blend reports that director Ivan Reitman is expected to meet with Sony executives about what to do with Ghostbusters 3 after the loss of Harold Ramis. It was already rumored that Ghostbusters 3 would introduce a new, younger crew of ‘busters, but the old gang — Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and maybe Ernie Hudson — making appearances in the film as well. However, it seems that the film’s screenplay, penned by The Office‘s (U.S.) Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, has to be re-worked due to the passing of Ramis.

Ghostbusters Would Have Caused $23 Million In Damages (Adjusted For Inflation)

Are you troubled by strange noises in the middle of the night? Do you experience feelings of dread in your basement or attic? Have you or your family ever seen a spook, specter, or ghost? Who, pray tell, are you gonna call? The answer seems obvious, but before you go dialing the Ghostbusters, you might want to make sure your insurance is paid up to date. Venkman, Spengler, Stantz, and Zeddemore may get the job done, but there’s a good chance they’re going to burn down your house in the process.

Emma Stone, Like Many Others, Is Not Interested In Ghostbusters 3

emma stoneYou guys know what time it is. It’s time for everybody’s favorite non-news program Everything That Isn’t Exactly Happening With Ghostbusters 3. I’m your host Skip Slittersby (since even names aren’t confirmed where Ghostbusters 3 is concerned). Today’s top story is that actress Emma Stone is not interested in starring in this long-gestating sequel. It isn’t actually clear that she was ever interested. Rumors like this often tend to run amok. The source is quoted as saying she “is passing” on the project. In reality, this could potentially mean Stone had three or four unwritten emails from Dan Aykroyd in her inbox that she didn’t read until earlier this week.

Stone’s name was rumored along with Jonah Hill, who, rumor has it, is still showing interest in the starring role. What’s intriguing, should it be true, is that Sony is apparently looking for two big name actors to sign on for the film or they’re not going to give it the green light. That sounds like common sense, as studios always want star power for their franchise projects, especially in the case of such a troubled film like Ghostbusters 3.
