Timecrimes Director Nacho Vigalondo Has The Best Idea For A Kaiju Movie

nacho vigalondoThis may be the best news you hear all weekend, and you might not even know why. Spanish filmmaker Nacho Vigalondo isn’t about to let the likes of Guillermo del Toro and Gareth Edwards have all the fun when it comes to giant monsters, and plans to make a kaiju movie of his very own.

In certain circles, Vigalondo is fairly well known, but he’s far from a household name for general audiences in the U.S. He’s contributed segments to horror anthologies like The ABC’s of Death and VHS: Viral, but he’s probably most widely recognized for his 2007 sci-fi thriller Timecrimes. His most recent offering, Open Windows with Elijah Wood and Sasha Grey, got high marks coming out of the recent Fantastic Fest, and I saw him at the Seattle International Film Festival a few years back talking about his alien invasion rom-com Extraterrestrial, which is also great.

Godzilla Art Exhibit Remixes The Classic Monster In A Variety Of Styles

GodzFeatWe’re pretty damn stoked about seeing Godzilla this weekend, especially after the rest of us read Brent’s review. But while we’re all about celebrating our favorite city-stomping, atomic-breathed giant lizard, I must confess that “art” isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Godzilla. Unless Art is the name of some poor schmuck that Godzilla steps on during one of his rampages. Thankfully some very creative folks did use Godzilla as their personal muse, resulting a very cool collection of artistic riffs on the classic movie monster.

The shots are all from the folks over at Shock Till You Drop, who hit up the “Godzilla: All Art Attack!” exhibit at Creature Features in Burbank, California. The show opened this past Sunday and is set to run through June 1. Even better, admission to the museum is FREE, so it’s definitely worth the trip if you’re within tripping distance. The images we’re including represent only a small sliver of the full show, but these were some of our favorites. I mean, how can you not love Godzilla hanging ten on a ship? That’s the best use of an ocean vessel since Pacific Rim had Gipsy Danger grab one and go batter up across the face of an angry kaiju.
