Elon Musk

Elon Musk is certainly one to appear in headlines for his controversial practices when it comes to science. That was certainly the case when he first introduced the Neuralink, which is a microchip inserted into the brain that can essentially allow those with brain disease to be able to use electronics like computers and phones without the usage of their limbs. Now the richest man in the world has come up with another idea that is causing a stir in the scientific community. Musk took to Twitter to announce that in wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the world should be aiming to turn on outdated nuclear power plants. You can read the tweet below:

Elon Musk wants to turn on dormant nuclear power stations in order to find an alternative means of energy than using fossil fuels. While the world has been steadily moving away from fossil fuels, which are catastrophic to the planet’s atmosphere, adding more nuclear power to the world might also be detrimental. This statement comes as a result of Russia targeting nuclear power plants in their attempt to take over Ukraine. One of which is the site at Chernobyl. How and why Russia would even want to restart that station is a mystery considering the area is covered in radiation.

Suggesting that certain countries restart their efforts for more nuclear power might sound like a crazy idea, but Elon Musk has also volunteered to put himself in harm’s way. He claims to want to travel to wherever the nuclear power is and eat their locally sourced food to prove that radiation risk isn’t what people think it to be. This certainly is the sort of, “put your money where your mouth is,” type of thinking that the man has. We are not sure how accurate his claims about radiation risk are, but he is certainly willing to prove everyone wrong while potentially putting his health at risk.

Elon Musk wants Europe to counteract the Russian attack on Ukraine’s nuclear power sites, by restarting the nuclear power stations that have long since been abandoned. This idea could simply be because gas prices have risen quite a bit in the wake of the deep sanctions being placed on Russia. With Russia being one of the leaders in producing crude oil, Musk is suggesting an alternative means of getting the world the power and energy it needs. The strong sanctions being placed on the nation by other countries is in an attempt to massively slow down their support and ability to get more materials needed for their invasion, which has been condemned by most of the world.

Elon Musk might sound like a madman at times, but he is essentially attempting to find a way to help Ukraine and the rest of the world. There is no telling when Russia will abandon its efforts to take over the sovereign nation of Ukraine, but the hope is that is sometime soon. Either that, or we start pumping out radiation like crazy.
