Any time you have a high-profile project like Star Wars: Episode VII, we’re inundated with news and rumors and innuendo about which stars might like to take a trip on the Millennium Falcon, pilot an X-Wing, or wield a lightsaber. Zoe Saldana is the latest in a long line of actors to indicate that she would like to join her Star Trek Into Darkness director, J.J. Abrams, in jumping between sci-fi franchises.

Saldana told E! Online that, though she and her costars are “ecstatic” that Abrams is taking over the reigns for Episode VII, “we are going to give him shit because we don’t want him to ever think about leaving just in case we go into a third installment of Star Trek.”

She went on to mention that not only is she happy for her compatriot, she might be interested in swapping series right along with him. “I’m getting ready to call them, I tell you that. I want to be a sexy something, like a princess from another planet.” So it sounds like the 34-year-old actress might consider actively campaigning for a part.

As much as we’d all like to see Saldana painted blue on screen again, what impact would this have on the Star Trek franchise, especially when most of us assume there is going to be a third film in that series?

Can an actor stand with one foot in each of science fiction’s move venerable and beloved franchises? Simon Pegg recently put the kibosh on rumors that he would appear in Abrams’ Episode VII, but do you think Saldana could pull it off? Is that something you’d like to see?
