Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright’s The World’s End is the third and final movie in the Three Flavours Cornetto (Blood and Ice Cream) trilogy, a series of post-modern genre films that started in 2004 with the horror zombie comedy Shaun of the Dead. That was followed up in 2007 with the action/buddy cop comedy Hot Fuzz. Now The World’s End is set to skewer science fiction and wrap up the trilogy with killer cyborgs and plenty of beer.

The above featurette from IGN highlights how The World’s End will fit into the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, namely with the loose thread of characters buying Cornetto ice cream in each movie. The films fit together in more of a thematic way, rather than as a direct continuation from one to the next like in a traditional trilogy.

The World’s End follows Gary King (Simon Pegg), a 40-year-old man who refuses to grow up. He gathers his childhood friends to re-live their glory days and reenact an epic pub crawl of their youth. Little do they know that the fate of the world is in their hands. It seems as if their hometown has been invaded by glowing-blue-eyed killer robots that plan to destroy all of humanity. Can Gary and his friends defeat the robots’ evil plan before finishing the pub crawl at the final bar, The World’s End?

The World’s End will also feature Nick Frost, Martin Freeman, Rosamund Pike, Eddie Marsan, David Bradley, and Paddy Considine. Simon Pegg co-wrote the film’s screenplay with Edgar Wright, while Wright also directed the science fiction film.

The World’s End will hit theaters in the U.S. on August 23. Watch the latest trailer for The World’s End below:
