Even as a guy who loves Halloween, I am continually flabbergasted by the sheer amount of work and detail the cosplayers of the world put into crafting intricate, amazing costumes. We’ve showcased some truly jaw-dropping examples here on GFR before, but this one may have just raised the bar by a parsec or two. Check out the ginormous Wookiee costume in the video above and then marvel at the fact that this was created by a fan, not a Lucasfilm employee.

Created by cosplayer Julian Checkley, the “Tarfful the Wookiee” suit incorporates stilts so that, full costume, the suit stands a towering 8’2’ tall. He had been working on the costume for years, and just recently posted the above video of the completed Tarfful in action. The image below shows how the human fits inside the walking carpet.

Just seeing the video of the costume in action would be enough to blow my mind, but if you really want to be impressed, click over here and see what all went into the creation of the Tarfull suit. Checkley has posted tons of pictures from throughout the project, detailing steps such as creating the head sculpt and the armor, applying the fur, designing the rifle, and just generally being a god among cosplayers. There’s also this:

AHH
KILL IT WITH FIRE!

Being a stickler for detail, Checkley naturally figured out a way to incorporate those unmistakable Wookiee growls into the costume, installing a soundboard that pipes out growls whenever the costume’s mouth is opened. Here it is in action:

Seriously, I’m exhausted just looking at all the work this guy put into the costume. One piece of advice if Tarfful shows up at a cosplay contest you’re judging: let the Wookiee win.

(And while you’re at it, here’s Checkley’s also impressive Darth Malgus costume.)
