William Shatner Teases Damon Lindelof On Twitter, Then Things Get Awesome

Twitter may be further shrinking our already diminutive attention spans, forcing us to think in 140 characters or less, but it does at least give as it takes. Namely by facilitating surreal, random, and occasionally hilarious collisions between celebrities. Case in point, a recent tweet by the one, the only William Shatner, who decided to give Star Trek screenwriter Damon Lindelof a hard time under the guise of wishing him a happy birthday. See, Nimoy gets to pop up in the new Trek timeline, but did anybody invite along the original Kirk? Noooooo…
@damonlindelofI heard it was your bday yesterday. I would have made a fuss but you didn’t put me in your movie…TWICE!#yesiholdgrudges

Lindelof was gracious about the teasing, and genuinely seemed appreciative. Of course, that didn’t stop him from laying a burn on Shatner in the middle of all the heartfelt gooshy stuff.
@williamshatner Bill, I am both wildly geeking out that you acknowledged my bday and wildly geeking out that you hold a grudge against me.
— Damon Lindelof (@DamonLindelof) April 25, 2013
@williamshatner You know what else holds a grudge?The time/space continuum.Kirk fell off a cliff and died.#WhyWouldGodNeedAStarship

@williamshatner All that said, I only get to play in this universe because of YOU.And I am profoundly grateful for that.#sincere

It was a sweet, good-natured exchange. But then things escalated, because here comes former Trek writer/producer Brannon Braga, one of the guys many fans blame for Trek’s diminishing returns in the years before Abrams rebooted things.
@damonlindelof @williamshatner Sigh.We all make mistakes…
— Brannon Braga (@BrannonBraga) April 25, 2013
Okay, I have to give the guy credit for being able to laugh at a little self-deprecation. Shatner, however, smelled blood in the water and went for the jugular.
@brannonbraga @damonlindelof Ahhh Brannon and Damon two of the most despised in the Kirk Universe! All we need is Orci to complete trifecta!
— William Shatner (@WilliamShatner) April 25, 2013
@damonlindelof @williamshatner It was a script typo.We accidentally wrote: Killed by ‘Bridge on Kirk’ instead of ‘Kirk on the Bridge.’

So, what have we learned, kids?
- Twitter is fun.
- William Shatner is awesome.
- For some reason, Alex Kurtzman gets a pass.
- That bridge joke still doesn’t make up for Voyager, Braga
