Could Wes Anderson Direct The New Star Wars Movie?

Disney and Lucasfilm have not announced who will write or direct the new Star Wars movie in 2015. There have been some really good possibilities and combinations out there, including names like Brad Bird. But Wes Anderson directing Star Wars: Episode VII has to be one of the kookiest (and magnificent) ideas the Internet has offered up.

Obviously, this is a parody from Conan O’Brien and Team Coco. It seems like they’ve combined every element from Wes Anderson’s films, including Rushmore, The Royal Tenebaums, and The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou in this video. If nothing else, maybe this would get the hipster audience in theaters.

Wes Anderson’s sensibilities really do not line up or match the ones of Lucasfilm or the Star Wars saga, but A Life Galactic is a first-rate title. Are there any action sequences in a Wes Anderson film? Seeing Boba Fett in a Team Zissou red wool cap is simply the best! But it’s good to see Anderson taking a firm stance on who shot first, Han Solo or Greedo.

O’Brien and his TBS crew have made other director’s “audition tapes” for Star Wars: Episode VII, including ones for Michael Moore, Woody Allen, and Kevin Smith. Maybe Team Coco will keep making these parodies until Disney and Lucasfilm actually hire a director to make the new space opera. It’s good to see Star Wars in pop culture again.
