Vin Diesel is a burly hulk of a man. Still, as big and massive a human as he is, he’s got a ways to go before he can play seven-and-a-half-foot-tall tree-like alien superhero known as Groot in Marvel’s upcoming adaptation of Guardians of the Galaxy. A new video making the rounds shows a light-hearted Diesel getting some practice in on the set of his next film, the seventh installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise.

Diesel has always been an active presence interacting with fans through various social media outlets. When hyping Riddick over the past year or so, he regularly released photos, footage, and bits of new via his Facebook page. And this is exactly where this latest video comes from. It shows Diesel, during a break on the set of Fast 7, bounding around on stilts, ostensibly practicing for his upcoming role, but mostly just goofing around and having a good old time with cast mates and fans.

James Gunn’s film, which recently wrapped up principal photography, is going to use motion capture technology to render both Groot and Rocket Racoon, who will be voiced by Bradley Cooper. Groot only has one line that he says throughout the film, “I am Groot.” However, when you cast a star the size of Diesel, even in a film with the budget and scope like Guardians, you want to get your money’s worth, so you can bet your ass he’ll be seeing all kinds of action.

You get to watch the boosted up Diesel interact with co-stars like Kurt Russell and Djimon Hounsou. Hounsou is actually a part of the cast of Guardians, and plays Korath the Persuer, an agent of the Kree Empire, one of the bad folk. He also looks to be pretty glad that he doesn’t have to jump around on spring-loaded stilts that make you look something like a weird goat man.

Guardians of the Galaxy follows the adventures of an unlikely crew of superheroes as they travel through the far depths of space. Led by an American pilot Peter Quill, AKA Star-Lord, this group of ex-cons must go on the run with a valuable object and must battle an epic cosmic evil.

In addition to Diesel, Cooper, and Hounsou, the all star Guardians of the Galaxy cast also features Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, former professional wrestler Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Lee Pace, Benicia Del Toro, Karen Gillan, John C. Reilly, and Glenn Close. The whole venture takes flight on August 1, 2014.
