Watch Interstellar As Many Times As You Want, Here’s How

interstellarSome critics out there would have you believing that only one sitting through one viewing of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar is doing it wrong, and that the film needs to be experienced multiple times in order for the real meaning of the story to become clear. Other critics, meanwhile, are pretty certain that only around half of Interstellar‘s near-three-hour runtime is actually worth watching in the first place. Regardless of your personal opinions, Paramount and AMC Theaters are teaming up to give North American audiences the chance to watch Interstellar as many times as they want for one flat rate. Is this the sound of scientific progress going “boink?”

In a deal that fits very much into the “Everything Christopher Nolan Makes Now Is Epic” mindset that the filmmaker’s fans have, AMC and Paramount are giving moviegoers the chance to buy unlimited tickets to Interstellar, with the stipulation that consumers must also be apart of the AMC Stubs program. (I guess that’s the corporate idea of “paying it forward.”) The price of the additional ticket will differ, depending on where you live, and could set you back anywhere from $19.99 to $34.99, though it includes both standard theatrical screenings and IMAX screenings. Stubs members who have already spent a few hours in Nolan’s spacey universe only have to pay $14.99 for the unlimited ticket.

U.S. movie tickets average out around $8.00, so anyone feeding into this promotion should be ready to watch the flick at least three or four times to justify the price. To me, Interstellar‘s laughable story faults are going to be that much more egregious on the small screen, so experiencing the magical space travel madness should be limited only to big-screen ventures. Still, I’m not sure that ponying up more money than I’ve ever spent on anything theatrical is the best way to enjoy myself.

Here’s how AMC executive vice president Elizabeth Frank put it in a press release:

Christopher Nolan has created a masterpiece that movie fans are saying gets better every time they see it. The Interstellar Unlimited Ticket gives these fans an opportunity to experience the spectacular cinematography and heart-warming stories as many times as they would like — at any AMC location, any showtime, in any format, including IMAX.

It really is the ultimate package, though I wish one could spend a few more dollars for the chance to watch the film alongside the A.I. bot TARS, who was Interstellar‘s greatest achievement. Add Tom Servo and Crow and we’ve got ourselves the makings of a party.

Interstellar finished out the past box office week in third place, behind Big Hero 6 and Dumb and Dumber To. Its domestic totals are right around $96 million, though it has already become a massive success overseas, bringing in $225 million over the last two weeks. How much money do you think this Ultimate Ticket will add to those?
