Rian Johnson’s much-anticipated follow-up to his 2009 film, The Brothers Bloom, Looper is a sci-fi, action movie involving time travel and organized crime won’t hit theaters until September 28th. The US theatrical trailer won’t be released until tomorrow but you can watch the UK version of the trailer now.

Looper is set in a world where time travel is a reality but it’s illegal and only available on the black market. When crime bosses want to get rid of their enemies, they send them back 30 years to be assassinated by specialized hitmen called “Loopers.” Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a Looper who takes care of the mob’s opposition and he’s getting rich doing it. But when Joe has to confront and kill his future self (Bruce Willis), he must decide to do his job or “close the loop.” Looper also feature Paul Dano, Jeff Daniels, Piper Perabo and Emily Blunt.

The second half trailer also reveals some of the plot elements of the movie. This would involve the older and younger Joe teaming up to try to find and kill a mysterious crime boss known as The Rainmaker, if they stop the Rainmarker in the past then they stop the probable future that leads to the older Joe getting set back to be eliminated.

Looper looks like a cross between The Terminator and Minority Report, but can Rian Johnson pull off this high concept time travel film on such a big scale? His first two films were very small indie films. If the end product of Looper can compare to the quality of Brick and The Brothers Bloom then audiences are in for a sci-fi treat.
