Watch These Animated Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Shorts

In the past few years, it seems like there has been a resurgence or renaissance with The Power Rangers. The children who grew up with them are heading into their early to mid-twenties so it makes sense that there’s an air of pop culture nostalgia for the Mighty Morphrin’ Power Rangers. The colorful collective created by Haim Saban will be celebrating their 20th anniversary of their August 28th 1993 series premiere next year. But a Canoga, California based animator Mike McCraw has made two new shorts featuring the Power Rangers to feed anticipation for the milestone.

The shorts are just that, short. Clocking in at less than one minute, McCraw (aka The Wolf) has captured the thrill and excitement of the Power Rangers kicking ass! The animation itself has a certain fluidity to it like a Bill Plimpton animated short. Instead of animating their Zords (The Power Rangers’ dinosaurs/prehistorical themed mechs), he shows them fighting hand-to-hand against their flexible foes, the Putty Patrol. McCraw is currently working on a short featuring the Blue Ranger and hopes to make one for every original Power Ranger. He can cross the Black and Pink Rangers off his list.

These shorts would make any geek’s heart swoon and teases the idea of a Mighty Morphin Power Rangers animated series like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It seems like they’re more suited for animation rather than live-action, suspension of disbelief can take you so far before it just starts being cheesy. Hopefully some executive at Nickelodeon will see these animated shorts and offer McCraw a mighty morphin’ contact to make more.
