WALL-E / Oblivion Trailer Mashup

When the first trailer for Tom Cruise’s upcoming sci-fi actioner Oblivion appeared, many noted certain similarities between the film and another recent genre favorite, Pixar’s WALL-E. Given the number of times the topic was mentioned, what follows was probably inevitable. An enterprising film fan has taken the two distinct entities, mixed them both together, and the result is a damn fine time.

The editing in this video is almost seamless as the soundtrack from the latest Oblivion trailer is laid over the top of footage from WALL-E, and it fits like glove. Both feature a future Earth that lies in ruin, high-tech robots, and intense action.

The best part of this whole thing is how the adorable little droid, WALL-E — who, as we all know, doesn’t have a voice in his own movie — suddenly finds himself with the sweet action-star vocal chords of Tom Cruise. I wonder if that surprised the diminutive robot the first time? It certainly is a shocking contrast for viewers. But even though he doesn’t usually sound like the badass hero type, he manages to pull off a heroic deed or two on his own, like returning the human race to our beloved planet Earth. That’s a pretty Cruise-y thing to do.

You can watch WALL-E anytime you want in the comfort of your own home, and Joseph Kosinski’s (Tron: Legacy) film—which also stars Morgan Freeman, Melissa Leo, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Olga Kurylenko—opens wide on April 19th.
