“Don’t Look Back.” In about two weeks, The Walking Dead will return to wrap up the last eight episodes of season four. While the first half of the season took a long time to find its footing, it seems like the series’ new showrunner Scott Gimple found his stride with an explosive mid-season finale. Now AMC has released a new teaser trailer that highlights some of the episode’s action and drama.

The new teaser features the group in separate locations after the prison walls fell in the attack by the Governor. Rick and Carl are alone and fending for themselves, while Daryl, Michonne, and Tyreese are trying to find the rest of the group. It also seems that the two kids who killed one of the Governor’s group are on their own, with Beth most likely with baby Judith Grimes. Rest assured that “After” will feature a lot of zombie attacks.

The episode’s main focus will be on Rick and Carl, with the latter rumored to be getting his own stand-alone episode later in season four. It’s believed that “After” will adapt the storyline from the comics that centers on Rick taking too many antibiotics and Carl finding him unconscious.

Meanwhile, series creator/executive producer Robert Kirkman addressed fans at this year’s Amazing Arizona Comic Con. Apparently, he gets a lot of questions about whether any characters created exclusively for the AMC TV series might crossover ingto the comic book, which has been on-going since 2003. Of course we’re primarily talking about Daryl Dixon here. Here’s what Kirkman thinks:

I guess it wouldn’t be a bad thing if Daryl Dixon showed up in the comic. But I don’t know. I really like the separation. I like that when we sit down to write the show one of the first things we deal with is: ‘How does Daryl Dixon change this story?’ Because we always start from: ‘Ok, we like this part of the comic. How are we going to do it?’

It seems that Kirkman really wants to keep the two properties separate, but with the increasing popularity of “shared universes,” fans might want to see The Walking Dead become as cohesive as the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the X-Men and Terminator reboot film series. If nothing else, with the new Walking Dead “companion” spinoff TV series coming to AMC in 2015, the Walking Dead TV universe is going to be expanding.

AMC recently released two new images from the mid-season premiere “After.” The images feature Michonne with her new zombie “pets,” and Carl watching over an unconscious Rick. The cable network also released a new plot synopsis that reads, “As Rick deals with old wounds, members of the prison have to come to terms with their new environment and ask themselves if survival alone is enough.”

The Walking Dead returns for the rest of season four on February 9, 2014, on AMC.
