Next week is the season finale of The Walking Dead, and everything has been building towards that moment. Last night’s episode, “This Sorrowful Life,” was easy on the action side, but served as a good penultimate episode with deep characterization and solid storytelling. While season three has had some painful lows, fans of the AMC zombie series can agree that this has overall been the best season of The Walking Dead yet. To get ready for the season finale, “Welcome to the Tombs,” you can check out two sneak-peek clips below:

Season three has always been about two sides, Rick’s prison survivors and the Governor’s Woodbury, so it’s no surprise that AMC chose to give fans a look at both. In the first clip, Carl, Carol, and Hershel are getting ready to leave the prison by packing up all their gear. Carl enjoys a good moment before the battle as he looks at a family portrait taken before the zombie apocalypse. Carl has come a long way on The Walking Dead, going from an annoying boy to a sympathetic, zombie-killing young man. Hopefully he’ll be around to see season four.

The next clip is more action packed. The Governor’s group invades the prison. It’s clear that the Woodbury side out numbers the prison’s side, but it seems like Rick’s group is smarter and more cunning. They have the advantage of knowing the layout and traps of the prison, but considering that it’s The Walking Dead, the body count will be high. Whether that body count comes from bullets or zombies, it’s going to be an explosive season finale.

The Walking Dead’s third season finale will air this Sunday, March 31st, on AMC. In the meantime, you can read Brent’s review of last night’s episode, “This Sorrowful Life.”
