The Walking Dead Season 5 Poster Gives You Two Options: Hunt Or Be Hunted

AMC’s The Walking Dead has always been a grim affair. From the very first episode when Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) wakes up to find that zombies have taken over the world and has to shoot a little girl zombie in the head, you know that this is not a happy-go-lucky, everybody-hug-and-laugh kind of situation. What we’ve seen thus far from the upcoming season 5 of the massive hit, including this new poster, they’re trying to even top themselves in that regard.
This new image is purportedly the main poster for the upcoming installment, and as you can extrapolate from what you see here, sailing is probably not going to get any smoother for our intrepid band of survivors. Evoking a predator/prey dynamic with the “Hunt or be Hunted” tagline, fans are likely in for a brutal, bloody time.
Given how season 4 of The Walking Dead ended, with Rick indicating that the group who holds him and his friends captive is screwing with the wrong people, you know which side he falls on. He plans to do some hunting sometime in the very near future. More and more as last season wore on, he started to resemble the Rick from Robert Kirkman’s comics that serve as the source material for the show. Instead of endless debate and back and forth that accomplishes nothing, he is starting to act when the situation dictates. He’s not always going to be right, and certainly isn’t infallible in the comics, but there are definitely times when not doing anything is much more harmful than doing the wrong thing. We’ve seen that play out repeatedly in earlier seasons of the series.
The last half of season 4 took a different narrative approach than most of what we’ve seen from The Walking Dead, and it’s going to be interesting to see if that continues. When they returned from their annual mid-season hiatus, the core group was splintered and, instead of checking in with everyone in each episode, the writers were more selective with what they showed each week. There was an episode where there were only two characters the entire time, Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Beth (Emily Kinney), and this strategy allowed to get into greater depth with each individual, and the result was that you connected more with them and learn more about who they really are as people than you ever have. It’s really very nice storytelling work. But now that the most of the group has come back together, you have to wonder how they are going to move forward.
However they approach it, we’ve been promised that when season 5 of The Walking Dead returns Sunday, October 12, they will hit the ground running, and that the first scene is so shocking that it even took the actors by surprise the first time they saw it all cut together.
