The Walking Dead Season 3 Blu-Ray Will Make Heads Roll This August

MichonneFor better or worse, we have another four months to wait until AMC brings The Walking Dead shambling back into our lives. Admittedly, it will be a different beast, and one with a possible herd mentality intact. But some people may want to relive the scatterbrained third season, or to experience it for the first time, and now we know when it can happen.

Experience the near-epicness of fan-favorite characters Michonne and The Governor when Anchor Bay Entertainment drops its head-filled aquariums on everybody’s floor on August 27, 2013. The third season’s 16 episodes will be split up over five discs for both the Blu-ray and DVD sets. The standard retail price is standard retail ridiculous, but that’s before stores and web merchants get their markdowns involved. The Blu-ray is going for $79.99, and it’s $69.98 for the DVD. Let it be known that this humbly waged writer would never drop $80.00 for any AMC Walking Dead merch, even if it was a full series set after lasting another 10 years. (The comics are a different story.)

Nearly doubling that price is the special edition aquarium set with the floating heads inside, which has a marked price of $149.99. It’s more ridiculous, sure, but it was made by the talented guys at McFarlane Toys, and they have a set production number. Collectibles I understand more than just discs, which won’t be used forever.

There aren’t any details on the discs’ extras, but the usual grab-bag assortment will be on there, including “exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, never-before-seen featurettes, audio commentaries from cast and crew, deleted scenes and other surprises.” The press release had an exclamation at the end, but I was sad that the surprises weren’t listed, so it lost some of its energy.
