walking deadComic-Con 2014 will seemingly have more TV shows vying for fan love than in any other year, due in no small part to comic books making a huge splash on current TV trends. One such adaptation, AMC’s ridiculously popular The Walking Dead, will make a big, bloody splash for its fourth Con appearance, while Starz newcomer Outlander, based on Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling novels, will make its SDCC debut. Don’t worry, the two are being held at different times, so you won’t have to worry about zombies traveling back into 18th-century Scotland.

The Walking Dead is gearing up for its highly anticipated Season 5, during which Rick Grimes and his filthy-faced gang of misfits will presumably find themselves on the wrong end of a zombie threat. (Is there a right end?) Their fate will probably come up quite a bit during the series’ panel on Friday, July 25, inside the giant Hall H. The stage will be full of cast members such as stars Andrew Lincoln (Rick), Norman Reedus (Daryl), Steven Yeun (Glenn), Lauren Cohan (Maggie), Danai Gurira (Michonne), Melissa McBride (Carol), Chad Coleman (Tyreese), and Michael Cudlitz (Abraham). On the crew side of things, Walking Dead comic creator Robert Kirkman will be joined by executive producers Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, and showrunner Scott Gimple. And yes, make-up maestro Greg Nicotero will also be there.

Chris Hardwick, who is already tied to the show through his post-episode chat series The Talking Dead, will moderate the discussion. Following the panel there will be an autograph session, and I seem to recall AMC saying they will release the first Season 5 trailer at Comic-Con, but there’s no word about it in the announcement. Check out the recently released first clip below.

Now we move onto Outlander, which will also fill the stage with its cast and creative team on Friday, July 25. The Starz series previously announced that a Comic-Con appearance was in store, but now we know that showrunner Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica) will be on hand, along with Gabaldon and cast members Caltriona Balfe (Claire), Sam Heughan (Jamie), Graham McTavish (Dougal), Lotte Verbeek (Geillis Duncan), and Tobias Menzies (Black Jack Randall). Entertainment Weekly’s James Hibberd will moderate. No word on footage or autograph meet-and-greets.

Outlander centers on Claire Randall, a World War II combat nurse who is inexplicably transported back to the year 1743, where she soon finds her life threatened by everyone around her. She is forced to wed the chivalrous warrior Jamie, despite the fact that she’s already married in the present/future. Watch the full-length trailer below.

Outlander premieres on Starz on August 9. The Walking Dead‘s fifth season, meanwhile, will begin at some point this October. Comic-Con attendees are also advised to check out the Walking Dead Escape over at Petco Park for all your zombie-fleeing urges.
