The GovernorTonight’s episode of The Walking Dead will feature the second part of the Governor’s (David Morrissey) return. After he massacred his own people at the end of season three, we caught up with his whereabouts on the road. While it seems foolish to give a character like the Governor some sort of redemption, it’s going to be interesting to see how tonight’s episoden “Dead Weight,” leads up to season four’s mid-season finale, “Too Far Gone.”

AMC released new images from tonight’s episode, which feature more of the Governor’s return. The first image above shows off an open-shirted Morrissey pointing his gun at someone off screen. If this image foreshadows any plot points tonight, I predict that he’s going to shoot Martinez, his former right-hand-man and leader of the re-assembled goons from Woodbury. The second image shows the pair enjoying a round of golf. This scene almost mirrors one from season three where he hits a few golf balls at some roaming zombies.

Here is the official synopsis for “Dead Weight”:

A new and scary chapter is unfolding at a camp outside the prison. Will peace be attainable with the addition of new members?

A few days ago, a Walking Dead promo from New Zealand teased the climax of tonight’s episode, while an image from MTV also hinted to what’s in store for the Governor and Rick’s group at the prison. Some believe that “Dead Weight” will feature a storyline from Robert Kirkman’s “The Rise of The Governor” novel, which follows how The Governor became the terrifying legend of The Walking Dead. It is also believed that The Governor will run a tank through the prison, making it unlivable and unsafe for Rick’s group to live.

If that’s the case, the second half of season four might feature Rick’s group on the road again. In the comics that’s where they encounter the new additions to cast of characters: Abe, Eugene, and Rosita. We got a few hints throughout the season so far that indicate that the group could move on from the prison, namely Daryl and Michonne stumbling upon a mysterious radio signal. It seems like that would be a good place to end the first half of season four, before the show returns in February 2014.

A few days ago, The Walking Dead’s first showrunner Frank Darabont finally opened up about his feelings towards the zombie series, and the network executives at AMC. In short, he called them sociopaths. The show will also add a new character named Gareth before the season is over. Actor Andrew J. West will play the part, though there is little else known about the character. Considering the direction of The Walking Dead, it’s most likely that this new addition will be killed off and no one will care.

“Dead Weight” airs tonight, November 24th, at 9PM/8c on AMC.
