Pacific Rim Jaeger Repair

Some of the most entertaining promotional material for Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming monsters-versus-mechs adventure Pacific Rim has been the viral offerings. After all, these are the people who released a picture of a massive turd as a part of their marketing; they’re obviously having a lot of fun with this one. The latest poster falls into this fun category, though it is certainly less fecal-centric. It’s also a nice little piece of the world building done for the film.

When massive beasts called Kaiju emerge from the ocean and start wreaking havoc, the human race counters by creating giant warriors of their own, in the form of skyscraper-tall combat mechs called Jaegers. That large-scale battle for survival forms the basis for the plot of Pacific Rim.

This latest image is a sign, a literal sign, cordoning off an area for the exclusive use of Jaeger repair. You can imagine that these are mounted on the wall, and that if you closely scrutinize every frame of the film, you’ll catch a glimpse as characters walk by it in the middle of a conversation. Little touches like this can go a long way toward creating the world of a film, and can make or break the feeling of reality that is necessary to sell a picture.

Pacific Rim stars Charlie Hunnam as washed-up pilot Raleigh Becket, who, along with untested rookie Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi) and a out-of-date Jaeger, may be the last hope for humanity.

Storming theaters later this summer on July 12th, Pacific Rim also stars Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day, Max Martini, and Clifton Collins Jr. So far the buzz is ridiculously positive, and we’re pretty pumped about this around here.
