Tron Legacy Director Joseph Kosinski’s Next Movie Gains Two More

Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinkski’s next big project already has a release date — July 19, 2013 — and an official lead in Tom Cruise, but many other aspects of the project seem to be in constant flux. For one thing, they can’t even decide on a name. Depending on which news story you’re reading, it’s either named Oblivion, Horizons, or it’s untitled. Thankfully the cast is finally is finally settling down and Tom Cruise has gained his two leading ladies for the film: Olga Kurylenko and Andrea Riseborough.
The two female leads was one of the biggest holes remaining to be filled in the project (aside from that whole “title” thing), and they’ve gone through multiple possibilities over the months. The two characters in question are the wife of Tom Cruise’s character and a mysterious woman that he meets, and last August there were five actresses in contention: Olivia Wilde, Jessica Chastain, Brit Marling, Noomi Rapace, and Kurylenko. You might recognize Kurylenko as the Bond girl from the regrettable Quantum of Solace, but she obviously wowed the producers since she’s survived the intervening months. Film School Rejects says she is now a lock to play Cruise’s wife. Riseborough most recently appeared in Madonna’s W.E., and also in the excellent Never Let Me Go back in 2010.
If you haven’t been following the project, Oblivion/Horizons is set on a future Earth where our home planet has been blasted, irradiated, and abandoned. To make matters worse, the barren wastes of Earth have been overrun by alien scavengers. Cruise plays Jak, a lone soldier who lives above the clouds and repairs drones that work on the planet’s surface. One day he discovers a mysterious woman in a crashed vessel and the two embark on an epic adventure.
