DinobotsPOSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR TRANFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION BELOW

Yesterday, product information from Hasbro’s Guardians of the Galaxy toy line revealed possible spoilers about what characters could appear in the cosmic movie. Not to be left out of toy line leaks, a new set of specs from Transformers: Age of Extinction leaked. Apparently the best way to find out closely-guarded secrets about upcoming movies is to look at the merchandising tie ins.

Discovered by Transformers World, the new set of toys point towards which Autobots and Decepticons will appear in the new film. If you remember, a few months ago, we heard that the Dinobots will show up in Age of Extinction, and then the film’s producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confirmed the revelation. Now it seems Age of Extinction will introduce a new gereration of “robots in disguise.” Check out the full list, you might recognize some of the new additions:

  • Bumblebee
  • Crosshairs
  • Drift
  • Galvatron
  • Grimlock (Dinobot name)
  • Hound
  • Lockdown
  • Optimus Prime
  • Scorn
  • Slag (Dinobot name)
  • Slash (Dinobot name)
  • Slingshot
  • Snarl (Dinobot name)
  • Southpaw
  • Stinger
  • Strafe

While the product info reveals the Dinobots, this list only names four of the five original prehistoric Transformers. Grimlock (T-Rex), Slag (Triceratops), Slash (Velociraptor), and Snarl (Stegosaurus) are mentioned, but there’s no sign of Swoop or Sludge anywhere. Do the filmmakers have something against dumb, yet awesome Pterodactyls or Apatosauruses? I’d also like to point out that Slash is not an original member of the Dinobots. He wasn’t introduced until 1996, on the animated series Beast Wars. This was after the success of Jurassic Park when Velociraptors were big in pop culture.

Most important here is the addition of Galvatron, the reincarnated Megatron and new leader of the Decepticons. Galvatron was introduced during the animated feature film Transformers: The Movie in 1986. The evil transforming planet Unicron created Galvatron from the dead body of Megatron. Although Leonard Nimoy voiced the Decepticon in the movie, Frank Welker, who also voiced Megatron, voiced him for the animated series.

If you remember, Megatron did die at the end of Dark of the Moon in 2011, but there have been rumors that he would come back for Age of Extinction. Maybe he comes back as Galvatron instead. If the reincarnation is in the new movie, this brings up more questions about its plot. Does that mean Unicron will also make an appearance? Will Hugo Weaving voice Galvatron? If Galvatron is in the new movie, will Hot Rod or Rodimus Prime show up, too? We’ll certainly find out next June when the film is released.

There are no plot details available for Age of Extinction, but director Michael Bay describes the movie as a “chase from hell.” He’s also said that the new movie takes place four years after Dark of the Moon. The new film stars Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci, Sophia Myles, T.J. Miller, Victoria Summer, Kelsey Grammer, and Peter Cullen.

Transformers: Age of Extinction hits theaters everywhere on June 27, 2014, in 3D and IMAX.
