Transformers 4 Gets A Poster And A Name — Transformers: Age Of Extinction

age of extinctionA few days ago, possible titles for the new Transformers movie surfaced on the Internet. The titles varied in impact, but they all revolved around the end of the world with titles such as Transformers: Apocalypse, Transformers: Last Stand, and Transformers: Future Cast. It appears as if Paramount Pictures and Hasbro are going with another title that points directly to the appearance of the now-confirmed Dinobots.

According to Yahoo!, the title for the fourth installment, and the beginning of a new trilogy, is Transformers: Age of Extinction. The title suggests this film is part of a new era in the film series, while at the same time referencing the Dinobots. It’s unclear how the Dinobots will be introduced into the new film, but it’s interesting to note that the Dinobots are an independent faction of the Transformers. They are not mutually exclusive to the Autobots, although they tend to side with them almost all of the time.

Paramount also released the first teaser poster, which includes a Decepticon version of the Transformers 4 logo. The logo seems to be fossilized and buried beneath sand, while the title Age of Extinction could also be a clue about the Transformers movie’s premise.

We’ve seen leaked images and videos of anti-Transformers propaganda, which could suggest that the people of Earth no longer want the Autobots around, now that the Decepticon threat is all but forgotten. Michael Bay has always said that Age of Extinction would take place four years after the events of Dark of the Moon, where a large-scale battle between Autobots and Decepticons annihilated the city of Chicago. After the events in Chicago, the Autobots would likely seem more like a threat to humanity, rather than an ally.

I’m glad that the new Transformers movie will introduce the Dinobots into the film series. Perhaps throughout this new trilogy the filmmakers can introduce more Transformer subgroups such as the Predacons, the Aerialbots, and the Junkions. It’s good to see that the Transformers film universe is finally expanding after three movies. It was getting boring to see the same old Autobots and Decepticons in every movie in the old trilogy.

Currently, there is no plot description or synopsis available for the new Age of Extinction, but there have been rumors that it may feature fan-favorite villain Unicron and the possible return of Megatron, who Optimus Prime brutally killed at the end of Dark of the Moon. The epic Cybertron civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons is also rumored to play a role.

Transformers: Age of Extinction, which Michael Bay describes as a “chase from hell,” features actors Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Brenton Thwaites, Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci, Sophia Myles, T.J. Miller, Victoria Summer, and Kelsey Grammer as CIA Agent Harold Attinger.

You’ve got to hand it to Michael Bay and Paramount for not calling the new film Trans4mers. That would’ve been too easy (and obvious). Transformers: Age of Extinction will hit theaters everywhere on June 27, 2014, in 3D and IMAX.
