Former cinematographer Wally Pfister’s directorial debut, Transcendence, is quickly coming together. The film is set to be released next April, and should be one of the most anticipated movies of 2014. Transcendence has also brought together an all-star cast, which recently added Kate Mara.
Mara recently gave a fantastic performance in Netflix’s House of Cards, alongside Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright, so it will be very interesting to see her in Wally Pfister’s Transcendence. She’s a great actor, and Transcendence could earn her more commercial success.
She will join Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, and Rebecca Hall in the film. At the moment, it is unclear who Mara will play, but film is said to surround three scientists who are obsessed with combining human intelligence with computer technology. After one of the scientists is assassinated (most likely Johnny Depp), the others try to upload his brain into a supercomputer.
Kate Mara (sister of Rooney Mara, who also auditioned for the Rebecca Hall role in Transcendence) made her film debut in Sydney Pollack’s Random Hearts with Harrison Ford in 1999. She later played the romantic lead in How I Met Your Mother‘s Josh Radnor’s directorial debut happythankyoumoreplease in 2010. Mara also appeared in the Academy Award nominated 127 Hours for director Danny Boyle.
Writer Jack Paglen wrote the film’s screenplay, which will also be his feature film debut along with Wally Pfister’s. Christopher Nolan and his producing partner and wife, Emma Thomas, will serve as the science fiction film’s executive producers.
Transcendence will hit theaters everywhere on April 25, 2014.
