Transcendence Adds Cillian Murphy To Its Growing Cast

Cillian MurphyTranscendence is quickly coming together. Last week, Oblivion‘s Morgan Freeman was added to the growing cast of Wally Pfister’s directorial debut. Now it appears that another long-time Christopher Nolan regular has joined the cast: actor Cillian Murphy.

The news of Murphy joining the film comes from Latino-Review. Murphy, who was featured in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy and the mind-bending Inception, will work with long-time Nolan cinematographer Wally Pfister again. Although his role is still unknown, Murphy joins a cast that already included Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara, and Paul Bettany.

There’s still not much known about Transcendence‘s plot, but it will involve three scientists who want to meld human intelligence with computer technology. When one of the scientists is murdered, his colleagues try to upload his brilliant brain into a supercomputer. Jack Paglen wrote the sci-fi film’s screenplay, and Transcendence will also be his feature film debut. Christopher Nolan and his producing-partner and wife Emma Thomas will be the film’s executive producers. With all of this amazing talent involved, Transcendence screams high quality.

Cillian Murphy is an actor from Ireland, who gained recognition as Jim in the Danny Boyle-directed 28 Days Later in 2002. He later appeared as the Scarecrow/Jonathan Crane in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins a few years later in 2005. Murphy re-teamed with director Danny Boyle in the very, very underrated science fiction film Sunshine in 2007, and continued to work with Christopher Nolan in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. Murphy also made a small cameo appearance as Edward Dillinger, Jr. in Joseph Kosinski’s Tron: Legacy, and Kosinski hinted that Murphy may have a bigger role in the upcoming sequel, Tron 3.

Transcendence will open in theaters everywhere on April 25, 2014, in IMAX.
