DinobotsProduction on Transformers 4 is well underway, but the film’s story is a big question mark. The only concrete thing we know about the movie is that it will take place four years after the events of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and will include a “chase from hell.” It’s also unclear what new Autobots and Decepticons will be featured in the new Transformers 4, but there are now new rumors that suggest a few fan-favorites will emerge in the fourth installment of the Transformers film series, and director Michael Bal also released the first official picture from the set.

According to ComingSoon.net, Transformers 4 introduces the Dinobots to the film franchise. Bay and company are reportedly in the middle of shooting a scene in Chicago’s McCormick Place referred to as “1st Dinobot Attack” on the call sheet. Which Dinobots will be featured remains to be seen, but you can almost count on Grimlock, the T-Rex Transformer, to be part of the action. “Me Grimlock Happy to be in Movie Go Boom!”

The Dinobots are a sub-group of Transformers that take the form of, you guessed it, dinosaurs. They made their first appearance in Generation One of the Transformers animated series, and in Japan they were referred to as the Dinotrons. The original members include the aforementioned Grimlock (T-Rex), Slag (Triceratops), Sludge (Apatosaurus), Snarl (Stegosaurus), and Swoop (Pteranodon). Paddles, an Elasmosaurus, only appeared in the comic book version of the property.

Bay did say that Transformers 4 will be a complete re-design of the franchise, and the addition of the Dinobots certainly seems to corroborate Bay’s earlier statement. Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner has commented about introducing new Autobots and Decepticons to the film series to boost falling toy sales. Dark of the Moon may have raked in a billion dollars or so, but it didn’t do much in the way of moving merchandise.

Paramount also released a new location photo from the set of Transformers 4. The image below features (from left to right): Jack Reynor; Mark Wahlberg; 2nd Assistant B-Camera Casey “Walrus” Howard; 1st Assistant A-Camera John Kairis with back to camera; B-camera Operator Lukasz Bielan; Director Michael Bay; and Director of Photography Amir Mokri. It’s unclear what the crew is standing on, but feel free to speculate in the comments below.

Meanwhile, leaked location videos from Transformers 4 suggest the appearance of a new spaceship. This may lead to the series going cosmic, which, fingers crossed, could indicate the presence of fan-favorite villain Unicron, or a visit to Cybertron, the home planet of the warring factions.

The design of the Autobots and Decepticons have been drastically changed for the new film, with a new look for key players Optimus Prime, SideSwipe, and Bumblebee. New additions to the Transformers’ include Autobots Hound, Drift, and a car version of Slingshot, who has been traditionally a jet plane. On the Decepticon side, a Freightliner truck that might be Motormaster emerged, while the identities of a mysterious (and expensive) Pagani Huayra and Sonic RS Rally Car have yet to be determined.

Transformers 4 stars Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Brenton Thwaites, Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci, Sophia Myles, Victoria Summer, T.J. Miller, and Kelsey Grammer as the human villain. The film rumbles into theaters everywhere on June 27, 2014.
