A few days ago, the poster for Robot And Frank was released and now the first trailer. This quirky indie film first screened as an official selection at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be limitedly released in theaters on August 24th.

But here’s our first real look at the movie in the form of a full trailer…

Frank Langella stars as Frank, an aging retired jewel thief whose daughter Madsion (Liv Tyler) and son Hunter (James Marsden) gives him a robot who will help take care of him and keep him company. Susan Sarandon plays Frank’s favorite librarian and love interest Jennifer. The robot and Frank build an unlikely friendship when Frank discovers he can use the robot to help him with a heist. But when the police start to investigate the heist. Things start to get dangerous for the robot and Frank when it is discovered the robot’s memory can be used against Frank in a court of law.

If you were wondering, Kevin Spacey is NOT the voice of the robot but rather Peter Sarsgaard. The film was directed by Jake Schreier and written by Christopher D. Ford, whom are both making their feature film debut with Robot And Frank.

Robot and Frank received glowing review from film critics during the Sundance Film Festival this past January. It will be sure to delight general audiences for its light and charming tale of friendship set in the near future. The film feels like a very lighthearted cross between Little Miss Sunshine and I, Robot only without the beauty pageant and the robot accused of murder.

Side note: Don’t say the title of Robot And Frank too fast or it will come out as “Robot Anne Frank,” which would be a completely different type of movie that maybe wouldn’t be so delightful.
