tmntIt’s hard to imagine that it hasn’t even been two years since we first heard about Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes production company revamping the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, first by turning them all into aliens, then by not not turning them all into aliens. It’s been a long and winding sewer to get to where we are today, which is “slightly over a month away from actually getting to see what this movie is going to look like.” That’s right, the very first Ninja Turtles teaser trailer is set to premiere ahead of Anthony and Joe Russo’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier when that film hits theaters on April 4. We’re hoping this is real and not just a nightmare due to that roast beef and Tagalong pizza we ate last night.

The news was revealed by one of the film’s producers, Galen Walker, via his Facebook page, where he confirms, “We are ready and prepared for lift off! Been a long haul.” It’s definitely worth noting that he calls it a “teaser” and not a “trailer,” as this could be a solid first look at where this reboot is headed, or it might just be a goddamned manhole cover swiveling into place while one of the characters makes a corny joke off-screen. I put nothing past studios these days, least of all ones run by Bay. But even if you aren’t going to see the Captain America sequel, there’s a damned fine chance the trailer will pop up online beforehand. And then we’ll write about it and talk about how cool/horrible it was.

Here’s the picture Walker put up on his page.

Directed by Jonathan Liebesman, the film stars Will Arnett, Megan Fox, William Fichtner, Noel Fisher, Alan Ritchson, Jeremy Howard, Pete Ploszek, Danny Woodburn, and Whoopie Goldberg. We’d let you know the plot, only we don’t know it ourselves. The film comes out August 8, and will hopefully let at least one story detail out before then. Otherwise, I’ll have no trouble sitting at home, not wondering why they look like that.

Onto brighter news now, as Ninja Turtles co-creators Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman have re-teamed for the first time in 20 years to collaborate on the cover for the 30th Anniversary anthology issue for IDW Publishing. (The Ninja Turtles are 30 years old!) The comic will feature new stories from artists like Stephen Murphy and Frank Fosco, who have been a part of the franchise for a long time. Take a look at the cover below.

While Eastman has been back with the brand for some time now, Laird has pretty much kept away from his creation, though a recent blog post states that he and Eastman had a great time and that he hopes it happens again, and soon. So maybe it was too soon for you to get your “Eastman and Laird 4-ever” tattoo lasered off.
