Terminator: Genisys doesn’t hit theaters until July 1, 2015, but this week has seen a flurry of activity surrounding the latest Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring addition to the time travelling, robot-centric franchise. We’ve seen photos, heard some new plot details, and today, to round out your week and send you off into the weekend, we’ve got some storyboards of what looks like a badass battle to show you. And just for the hell of it, there are some more pictures to gawk at as well.
Whatever your take about the storyline that came out earlier in the week (reaction has been strong, with some fans practically screaming that they’re killing the series, while there have been more people than expected who seem to dig this out-of-left-field direction), we’re going to give this the benefit of the doubt and remain pretty damn excited. And the picture of Arnold as the grizzled, older T-800 that surfaced yesterday has a lot to do with that. It’s hard to look at that and not get at least a little bit excited.
These storyboards from EW should also go a long way towards easing your minds, because if nothing else, it appears we’re going to get some intense futuristic battles and action scenes. This first panel shows a bunch of skinless terminators on patrol, and as we all know, those are straight up terrifying, especially when they move en masse.
Then there’s John Connor (Jason Clarke) and Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) running around, with a bunch of the airborne HKs hovering around overhead, which is never a good sign.
You have what looks like Reese having problems, maybe trapped under an overturned vehicle…
…and some human survivors in a whole heap of trouble, surrounded by Skynet’s mechanical goons…
…and then another view of them as what appears to be prisoners.
Yeah, this looks like it has the potential to be some harrowing, brutal (PG-13 brutal anyway) stuff, and we can get behind that. In any case, it doesn’t look like the film is averse to putting their stars in all kinds of danger, which is always a plus.
EW has a big spread about Genisys, and the images have gradually been making their way online, and now there are a bunch more to check out. They include the key members of the cast, including Clarke and Courtney, and also Emilia Clarke, who plays this incarnation of Sarah Connor, and Matt Smith, who continues the time travelling ways he started in Doctor Who. They’re obviously staged for part of a photo shoot, but give you a good idea of what the characters will look like and even hint at the reported love story.
More than anything, I’m getting more and more curious to see what exactly they have up their sleeves for Terminator: Genisys.
