Terminator: Genesis Set Pics Have Arnie In Khakis, Sarah And Kyle In Scrubs

TermTerminator: Genesis is currently filming in New Orleans, and the Daily Mail snapped some pictures of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, and Jason Clarke on set earlier this week. Sadly, Skynet’s lawyers won’t let us reproduce the pictures here, but we can discuss the hell out of them.

First off, we know Schwarzenegger is playing a T-800, but one that’s been in service long enough that it now looks like a 66-year-old version of the dude up top, Arnie as he appeared in James Cameron’s first Terminator film in 1984. Schwarzenegger told MTV that, while the machine underneath doesn’t really age, the biological tissue wrapped around the cyborg’s frame does. Hence, a silver-haired, wrinkled Terminator who can presumably still kill you very efficiently.

Schwarzenegger told MTV, “Terminator deals a lot with time travel, so there will be a younger T-800, and then what that model does later on when it gets reprogrammed, and who gets a hold of him. So it will be all kinds of interesting twists in the movie, but I feel so good.” He’s also swapped the trademark leather jacket of the last few films for a khaki number, and we assume he’s also wearing comfortable, conservative shoes.

As for his new castmates, we’ve got Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke as a young Sarah Connor — gone are her platinum locks from the HBO series, replaced with Sarah’s brunette coloring — and Spartacus: Blood & Sand’s Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, the soldier from the future sent back by her son John to save her from the original T-800 (and knock her up with John). Reese didn’t survive that mission in the original film, so there’s no telling how the characters were plucked from their respective points in the time stream. Kyle and Sarah are both sporting blue medical scrubs and packing guns in the set pics, however, so I’m betting this scene involves them sneaking into or out of a hospital of some sort. Maybe a psychiatric unit? There’s certainly precedent for that in T2

Clarke
Never mind the phone book, that’s her.

Also on hand in the images is Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty), who’s playing John Connor — a version that is at this point quite a bit older than his mother (he’s 44, she’s 27). He’s wearing a suit and has our back to us in the pictures, but it’s definitely intriguing that Sarah is seen aiming her weapon at him. Maybe she thinks he might be an impostor T-1000? There’s no telling.

One thing that does stand out in the pictures is just how tiny Emilia Clarke is. Standing in at only 5’2, she’s four inches shorter than original Sarah Connor Linda Hamilton, and a full foot shorter than Clarke and Courtney. We’ve seen Game of Thrones, though, so we have no doubt she can bring the badass.

Terminator: Genesis will hit theaters on July 1, 2015.
