Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesJonathan Liebesman’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles finally hits theaters. Odds are you have strong feelings about this one way or another. People all seem to be pretty excited about this, totally dreading the release, or full of hate. (Though star Megan Fox did tell all the haters they can fuck right off.) Personally, I’ve gone from cautiously optimistic to completely pessimistic back to a place where I’m weirdly excited despite obvious misgivings. Fans of the franchise should have quite a bit to keep an eye on in this movie, but Fox just revealed a surprise for fans of the cartoon. And to get you pumped, Paramount has also dropped a bunch of new photos to keep you sated until Friday.

Be warned, there are SPOILERS for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles beyond this point if you’re afraid of such things.

During this interview with Coming Soon, Fox talks about her love of the franchise, and all of the great effort everyone involved went through to make sure this new movie stays true to the spirit of the source material. That’s good to hear, but we’ll wait and see for ourselves exactly how well they accomplish this goal. She also publicly expresses her affection for Vanilla Ice’s contribution to the canon, the oft-maligned “Ninja Rap,” which is a bold, brave move. But good for Ice for getting some love.

Baxter StockmanHere’s the most noteworthy part of the interview, Fox lets it slip that Baxter Stockman makes an appearance in the movie. She does, however, say that you’ll have to be especially eagle-eyed in order to see him, so odds are he’ll be in the background somewhere and if you blink you’ll miss him. For those of you who aren’t familiar, Baxter is a brilliant, if mad, scientist who often allies himself with Shredder or other enemies of the Turtles. He also mutates into a human fly. Appearing in several storylines across various incarnation of the Turtles, this should be a fun little addition for fans to look out for.

Paramount also dropped a gallery of high res photos from the film. There are a number of things to gawk at here, but the mot noteworthy is probably the best look we’ve seen of Splinter, the Turtles’ friend, mentor, and father figure.

Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesYou also get another solid look at Shredder, who is apparently not William Fichtner’s character.

Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesAnd because this is a TMNT movie, there is going to be a ton of action, including what looks suspiciously like skydiving Ninja Turtles (I know they’re not really, but a boy can dream, can’t he?)…

…and much more of the title characters.

The team also has sweet, solar powered action van. They are green after all. I apologize for that, but it had to be done.

Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesThere are also bunches of image of the human player in the onscreen drama, including April O’Neil (Fox), Vernon Fenwick (Will Arnett), and Eric Sachs (Fichtner), whoever he winds up being.
