Since the 2011 cancellation of Stargate Universe, it’s been a lean time for fans of the ‘gate. (Is that a thing Stargate fans say? I’m assuming it is.) And while I’m afraid I don’t have good news about any return to the big or small screens, you will get the chance to return to the Stargate universe in a more interactive way. Check out the cinematic teaser trailer for Stargate SG-1: Unleashed.

While the trailer could pass for a triple-A console/PC game, Unleashed is instead an episodic adventure game from MGM and Arkalis. It will be available for iOS and Android devices. So far there aren’t any details as to gameplay or pricing, but it is slated for a March 2013 release.

I’m sure Stargate fans will feel a little sting of glee at the sight of familiar faces from SG-1 (albeit in digital form), but what should we expect from Unleashed? We can probably pick up a few clues from its description as an episodic adventure game. That’s a format that’s found a lot of success in recent years, especially in the catalogue of Telltale Games, who have produced episodic adventures for such high-profile properties as Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, and The Walking Dead. Their games release in short segments over several months, ideal for more casual gameplay on tablets or laptops.

We’ll bring you more about Stargate SG-1: Unleashed when we hear it.
