While there is no word yet on who will direct the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII for Disney, there has been an insane amount of rumors and speculation on who will get the job. There’s no doubt that this will not end until Disney announces the director and every possibility is up in the air, even candidates that seem really, really unlikely.

During a Q&A with Deadline, director Wes Anderson spoke about his admiration for the original Star Wars trilogy and how those films played a valuable part of his childhood. Although Anderson is one of the more acclaimed directors of his generation, the auteur feels he’s at a certain disadvantage because of his signature style. Anderson admitted:

‘Well I have a feeling I would probably ultimately get replaced on the film because I don’t know if I have all the right action chops,’ he said. ‘But at least I know the characters from the old films.’

Anderson doesn’t rule out the possibility, but he at least realizes where his strengths lie as a writer and a director. Anderson did jokingly speculate about what he could do with the Star Wars universe: “I don’t think I would do a terrible job at a Han Solo backstory,” Anderson said. “I could do that pretty well. But maybe that would be better as a short.”

Now that would be interesting. Possibly having Jason Schwartzman playing a young Han Solo in Wes Anderson’s “A Life Galactic With Han Solo” would be an amazing watch. A few months ago, Conan O’Brien made a parody “audition tape” for Wes Anderson that showed his version of a Star Wars movie. In the quirky director’s fashion, it was a meticulous masterpiece.
