“Interesting news, this could be!” When Lucasfilm and Disney announced that there would be a new Star Wars sequel trilogy, they also claimed they would release two to three Star Wars movies a year. In addition to the new trilogy, we’d be getting standalone films and spin-offs that take place within the Star Wars universe. We’ve heard both Robert Rodriguez and Zack Snyder sounding off on their dream Star Wars projects, but so far that’s all they are. Now, however, we may finally have some solid news on what to expect from the first standalone Star Wars movie.

AintItCool.com reports that Lucasfilm might be getting ready to make a standalone movie about Yoda. The word is that screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan may be developing this project featuring the ultimate Jedi Master. According to Harry Knowles, “The first Stand Alone film is going to center upon YODA. At this stage specifics are sparse, but Kathleen Kennedy is putting together a STAR WARS slate.”

So, what could we expect from a Yoda movie? It could deal with Yoda’s origins, and how he became the powerful Jedi we all know and love. Although two hours of listening to “Yoda speak” could get annoying.

AintItCool also teases a project centered on the vile gangster, Jabba the Hutt. It would involve how Jabba rose to power and how Han Solo came into his debt. If the standalone Star Wars movies are merely origin stories, however, that could get old fast. In some instances it could be fun to see the early years of a beloved character (i.e. Yoda, Han Solo), but there’s a reason why characters like Jabba The Hutt are side characters. Nevertheless, expanding the Star Wars universe to accommodate more thrilling adventures is always welcomed.
