A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… Get ready to return to the newly cohesive Star Wars universe, because one of the first major pieces of the rejiggered canon launches this Friday night with Star Wars Rebels. Set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, Rebels follows a small band of misfit characters as they form the beginnings of the Rebellion against Palpatine’s Galactic Empire. To tweak a phrase from Guardians of the Galaxy, the fate of the galaxy may rest in the hands of an ex-Jedi, a talented Twi’lek pilot, a spunky Mandalorian female with a love of graffiti, a gruff alien enforcer, and a charismatic teenage con artist. How will their acts of rebellion spark a movement that will someday overthrow an Empire? Tune in and find out.

Rebels should hopefully ease some of those withdrawal pains fans have been going through since the cancellation of The Clone Wars. And even if you think it looks too childish or cartoon-y, you still might want to tune in, because Rebels will reportedly have some major ties to Episode VII. So it’s entirely possible that you might see characters, places, or situations teased in Rebels that will play a major role in the upcoming new Star Wars trilogy.

Star Wars Rebels‘ two-part series premiere, “Spark of Rebellion,” airs this Friday night at 9/8c on the Disney Channel. It will jump to Disney XD for the rest of its run.
