star-wars-rebels-lego-set-images-01With the production team behind Star Wars: Rebels recently finishing the animated series’ first episode, it should only be a matter of time before we get a teaser from Disney and Lucasfilm. The companies have been really good to Star Wars fans in the past, introducing and revealing new elements of Rebels through their social media outlets like Instagram and tumblr. We now have a pretty good look at the budding Rebel Alliance’s new spaceship, The Ghost, through this new LEGO set.

These images below came from Nuremberg Toy Fair 2014 in Germany and feature LEGO’s new Star Wars: Rebels edition. A few weeks ago, we learned some of the character names from Rebels, namely the animated series’ protagonists Ezra Bridger, who pilots of The Phantom, and Zeb, pilot of The Ghost. The latter ship is described as a mix between The Millennium Falcon and a B-17 bomber. While Lucasfilm has yet to announce who will voice each role, it is believed that Freddie Prinze, Jr. and/or David Oyelowo fill those spots.

The LEGO set looks pretty great. It seems nowadays that the best way to learn more about an upcoming movie or TV show is to check out its tie-ins. Films like Transformers: Age of Extinction, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have all recently been teased or revealed through their respective new toys. If Hollywood studios want to keep a lid on their upcoming blockbusters, then they should keep its movie toys under wraps as well.

The Ghost, it looks a lot like concept art Lucasfilm released early in Rebels’ development, but there is also a mysterious alien as The Ghost’s gunner. Perhaps the LEGO set is showing us that there’s the possibility of a multi-species Rebel Alliance, a refreshing take if you’re a Star Wars fan.

Recently, Lucasfilm revealed another member of the Rebels team. Chopper, aka C1-10P, is a new astrodroid, similar to R2-D2, but not as clean or put-together as that lovable droid. Lucasfilm also released a new video featuring the new droid. Another rumor has it that the new series might be directly connected to the live-action Star Wars: Episode VII. It’s possible that characters introduced on Rebels, namely expanded universe fan-favorite Mara Jade, could appear in the new movie. She would, of course, have to be being 30 years older.

Rebels takes place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, a few years before the start of Episode IV. The Galactic Empire is taking over planets in the Outer Rim, and a band of teenage renegades start to sabotage the Imperial stranglehold on the planet Lothal. They do anything they can to undermine the new Emperor’s power and form the very early stages of what will become the Rebel Alliance.

Star Wars: Rebels will air sometime in October 2014. It will premiere on the Disney Channel, and then move to Disney XD.
