As the first new addition to the post-Disney canon, Star Wars Rebels has been a pleasant surprise. Definitely aimed at a younger audience, it’s still enjoyable for us grow folks as well, full of swashbuckling action, not to mention the fact that it’s featured tons of familiar faces from the franchise. The end of the first season is upon us, and they’re going to bring back one fan favorite character for the finale: Darth Vader, which you can see near the end of this new promo.

Vader, voiced by James Earl Jones, showed up in an extended version of the first episode of Rebels, “Spark of Rebellion,” and he’ll make his presence known once again in Monday’s installment, “Fire Across the Galaxy.” The iconic villain doesn’t play much of a role in this video, though all you need is a flash of his presence to know that you’re in for a harrowing time.

With or without Vader, this quick trailer does look pretty damn exciting. You’ve got high adventure, an epic space dogfight between the Ghost and a squadron of TIE Fighters, and a two-on-one Jedi duel where the participants fling each other around using the Force. What more do you need?

The thing I appreciate more than anything about Rebels is that it feels like Star Wars. Even with an animation style I’m not a huge fan of, it’s still fun and energetic and captures the excitement you felt when you were a kid and watched these movies. And it looks like the end of the season is going to live up to this. The cast is certainly enthusiastic, as Freddie Prinze Jr., who voices Kanan, the leader of the core group, tweeted this:

That certainly sounds pretty epic.

Set in the time between the end of Revenge of the Sith and the beginning of A New Hope, Rebels show the Empire tightening its grip on the galaxy. In this oppressive environment, the seeds of what will become the Rebel Alliance start to sprout, and rebellion brews in the outer rim. An unlikely group of heroes—Kanan, Ezra, Hera, Sabine, Zeb, and Chopper—come together to resist and fan the flames of rebellion.

The season one finale of Star Wars Rebels, “Fire Across the Galaxy,” airs Monday night on Disney XD.
