star warsDisney is about to make the dreams of every would-be Jedi come true. Word is that the company is planning to create a new area in Disneyland Paris called “Star Wars Land”. Take that Harry Potter!

Universal has the “Wizarding World of Harry Potter” and so far that’s been a huge success. It makes sense that Disney would want to find a way for its theme parks to compete in the realm of theme recreations of popular franchise lands, and since they already had an association with Star Wars with their “Star Tours” ride this seems like the obvious move.

It won’t, probably, be quite as big as Potter’s Wizarding World. Disney isn’t exactly creating an entire galaxy far, far away. But they are creating something special which will center around Star Tours 2, their re-invention of the popular Star Wars ride. The theme park plans to convert much of the area around Star Tours into a Star Wars themed area, maybe even adding other Star Wars rides.

Disney and More says the plan involves converting the old Captain EO theater, a series of gift shops, and some backstage area to create Star Wars shops and a Star Wars Jedi Training Academy for kids like the one at Disney Hollywood.

Here’s what Hollywood’s Jedi Academy looks like…

But the best news here is that they also plan to construct a recreation of the Mos Eisley Cantina. Or at least that’s the as of yet unconfirmed rumor. If true, Disney will recreate not just the interior but the exterior as well, which means creating a little piece of Tatooine around the Cantina as well.

Imagine being able to walk in and get a drink at a bar that looks like this…

What else Disney might add to their Star Wars Land plan in Paris remains to be seen, but we’ll let you know when they make an official announcement.
