A few months back we were all shocked and excited to hear the announcement of Disney acquiring Lucasfilm and the Star Wars franchise. The promise of Star Wars: Episode VII in 2015 was just too good to be true. Since then, we have all wondered who would direct the new Star Wars installment and what the story for the new sequel trilogy would involve. We may have found some exciting plot details.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW!

Buried in an article about the upcoming alleged Mayan apocalypse from Reuters may rest the key to Star Wars: Episode VII. It discloses the relationship between the first Star Wars film and the ancient Mayan city of Tikal, where the rebel base Yavin was originally based and shot for A New Hope. “Yavin 4 and the rebel base return to the Star Wars plot in the forthcoming Episode 7, announced in October by the Walt Disney Co., in which Skywalker comes back to the planet to build a Jedi knight academy.”

Could this be a way to bridge Return of the Jedi with Episode VII? If Luke Skywalker is to start a new Jedi Academy, then wouldn’t it be at the rebel base, or where it is set in the prequel films on the urban planet of Coruscant?

According to ScreenCrush.com, one of the Star Wars books takes place at Yavin IV, where Luke Skywalker used it as a sanctuary to train would-be Jedi Knights. This storyline also introduced Han Solo and Princess Leia’s twins, Jaina and Jacen Solo. This would be a good way to re-introduce Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia in a new sequel trilogy.

Considering there’s a few decades between the end of Revenge of the Sith and the beginning of A New Hope, it could be possible the same amount of time would be place between Return of the Jedi and Episode VII. This would also account for why Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher have aged a lot since the last time we saw them in a Star Wars movie in 1983.
