Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season Six Trailer Introduces The Lost Mission
Clone Wars is getting the send-off it deserves.

It’s been almost a year since Disney and Lucasfilm canceled Star Wars: The Clone Wars in early 2013. After Disney acquired Lucasfilm in October 2012, the Mouse House canceled many existing Star Wars projects such as the video game Star Wars: 1313 and the animated Clone Wars series on the Cartoon Network. With the announcement of a new animated series in the works (Star Wars: Rebels), it was unclear if the storylines featured in The Clone Wars would get a proper conclusion, including Ahsoka’s exit from the Jedi Order, the looming showdown with the Sith, and Order 66 leading into Revenge of the Sith. Then Netflix stepped in.
The popular service has shifted its business model from renting DVDs through the mail, to online streaming, and now to producing original content with shows such as House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, and Eli Roth’s Hemlock Grove. Now Lucasfilm is getting into the Netflix game with the sixth and final season of The Clone Wars. Beginning in early March, Lucasfilm is making all of season six (and all of the animated series back catalog and feature film) available to watch on Netflix at your convenience. With the release of the new trailer above, you finally get a better look at the action featured in the final season, as well as the title “The Lost Mission.”
A few weeks ago, Lucasfilm teased the “appearance” of Qui-Gon Jinn on The Clone Wars, voiced by Liam Nesson, and how the animated series would directly tie-in with the end of Revenge of the Sith. It looks like The Clone Wars will retcon a throwaway line from the end of Revenge of the Sith that teased Qui-Gon Jinn’s role in the larger Star Wars saga, namely the ability for fallen Jedi Knights to “come back” as wise ghosts via the Force. George Lucas didn’t do a very good job introducing the Jedi ability in Episode III, so it seems that Lucasfilm really wants to make that element of the saga more cohesive.
In fact, Lucasfilm started the Lucasfilm Story Group with Leland Chee and Pablo Hidalgo to hammer out what is considered official canon in the Star Wars universe. It seems that from now on, Lucasfilm is making a larger effort to make everything in the saga more consistent, in terms of the Expanded Universe. The Lost Mission is a clear step toward connecting Attack of the Clones with Revenge of the Sith.
A majority of the production team behind The Clone Wars has moved on to Star Wars: Rebels, which follows the early beginnings of the Rebel Alliance. Rebels take place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and is expected to premiere as a feature film on the Disney Channel this summer, before moving to Disney XD beginning this October.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars will be available for streaming on Netflix Instant on March 7.
